Haven’t seen the other topic, sorry!
The public reaction was impressive everybody posting there hate it!
Anywho is worth opening your eyes with something else then the dentist’s stock bike and the OCC “choppers”. For a change have a look here
http://churchofchoppers.blogspot.com/search/label/Basara%20MC%20(by%20Bird%20and%20Flynch)
‘Choppers were never meant to be long and useless…they were meant to be urban assault vehicles. Short, tight, light, and right. Getaway machines. Evasion, speed, performance…these were part of the formula for building a great chopper.

At what point in history did returning a vintage Harley back to stock and treating it like a fragile sculpture become the norm?

When did people stop seeing them as a solid platform for a urban assault vehicle? ‘
Luckily the HD designers are aware of the new trends in bike building and customising bikes this days and not having just the penis enlarger image in their head.
I don’t say that’s the way, I just say that’s a cool response in customising bikes in response to their purpose and the environment are built for (in this case Japanese city streets or quite all crowded big towns)
Saying that, I hardly wait to buy an Iron for my wife so I can ride it trough the town!
I forgot how things are here… ‘ I hate everything that is not between my legs or just half an inch to my bum’ . Twin cam hates Sportys and everybody else hates Harleys.
‘Love is in the air …lalla lalal lalaaaaaaaaaaa…’

Ahhh, Mister Basics I presume?

You've been a long time coming. (Get your mind out of the gutter and focus on the bikes, ok?)

Yes, the word "chopper" had a bit of a grey start didn't it? Chopped, bobbed? Hmmm, the beginnings were so close to each other yet the modern machines are so far away from each other it hurts. I like both but too much bling and the 'real' (read; scruffy, greasy,t-shirt and jeans-type) biker vanishes over the horizon in a latte`-laden sunset. I see so many, too many, shiny machines in the course of my life/work, that to come across something that is painted with aerosols, welded with gas and spitting flames out the straight pipes is truly a rarity. It still gives me a hard-on though and thank the heavens that they ARE still out there; just few and far between.

Fuck it, HD whoring out trends created in the shed into their line of bikes doesn't strike me as impressive. Its imitation, Its following the crowd not leading it. And its watering down something cool to sell to pretenders.

They take something created by bikers, mass produce a soft corporate safe version of it to sell to the soft headed fools who suck up their marketing.

Whoever made that advert needs to be shot.

I am firmly in the "Dam thats sexy" camp and am seriously gonna look at one for my next bike... unfortunately I have to wait for them to arrive sometime in late August / early September this year.

The only problem is that being one of the gullible, advertorial affected middle aged white males that I am... I might have to look at buying all the HD clothing and accessories. <_<

umm... it was a dig at people who think that if you buy brand named stuff (which on this site seems to mean "HD" stuff) then you must be a gullible, advertorial affected, middle aged white male... because it seems that you couldnt possibly just really like the product and what it stands for.

What does it stand for?, seriously, You think an over priced jacket with a Harley emblem on it stands for something? You think a brand of bike takes some sort of stance? It means about as much as a can of beans, and those beans don't get more "meaning" if they are have a billion dollar marketing campaign behind them, A Bean club for Bean owners, clothes to wear while eating those beans and a price tag at least double their nearest competitor.

Anyhow, I just dropped $300 on a pair of HD boots, They don't stand for anything, Just a damn fine pair of boots, and I bought them in spite of the Harley rubbish plastered all over them not because they stand for anything...well apart from crass marketing and the power of hyperbole.

Well actually, yeah I do. Different things mean different things to different people. Just cos you cant differentiate an American icon from a can of beans doesnt mean that I shouldnt be entitled to have my opinion on it.

Sure the company makes money from its brand... most good companies do. Sure it can be considered overpriced by many, but to those who are happy to pay the price, its probably worth every cent.

As for the hypothetical parallell you draw about the bean club members in their bean club clothing eating their overpriced 'brand' of beans... you dam well betcha if there was such a thing that those beans WOULD mean something to those people. Just cos you dont agree doesnt make you and your high and mighty tirade any more correct.

Yeah yeah... your entitled to your opinion and blah blah... but if you must post your opinions at least do it in such a way that you dont disrespect others because of their preferences.

Interesting, Your almost saying its a status symbol?,display of wealth?

Personally I like the look and the way it can be traced back through 100 years of motorcycles, Heritage does have a value, But god damn they have saturated it will gunk, Miles and miles of gunk, Now every bike has to have an angle and comes with a pre-packaged "lifestyle" The marketing it seems is more important then the bike.

There is no more "freedom" or "free spirit" packaged with any HD then there is with a GN250.

Of course, that's just my opinion, Not designed to upset any sensative soul's but of no concern if it does.

All bikes have different capabilities and style, we all aspire to what appeals to us.

Freedom and lifestyle isn't packaged with any brand of bike, Enjoyment and the thrill of riding is inherent in motorcycles whether they are from Korea or America, Over powered or under powered, Race track, dirt track or to work and back.

Stupid question.

Just about the most fun a man can have is fanging a 250 dirt bike on a gravel road.

And am I concerned that you claim to find me uninteresting etc... when you keep finding the time to come back and respond... no.

FYI, I dont think its so much that you have a noble desire to respond to people who address you... more likely that you have an insatiable desire to have the last word in order to try and justify yourself to anyone who may be reading - and also to try and make yourself look / sound important / cool / whatever. (As you will prove with your next response). Hope thats going well for you.

Hmmm... thats the first comment you've made that I feel I can actually take seriously.

Anyway, I think this thread has been done over... time to move on.

I want a Harley.

Of course you do!

Pulled into the southbound service centre on the Southern Motorway yesterday, on the way out of Auckland. Parked at the pump next to a guy on an 04 Road King in yellow and orange. He was wearing bright yellow rain gear, and I don't think he was at all worried how his clothing might have looked to some notional "them".

"It's just the way they sound, isn't it", he said to me. I nodded my agreement. "It probably would have been cheaper just to get a Harley engine recording on CD", he added with a smile. I laughed, and nodded my agreement.

and you ride a pretend Harley.

I'm sorry to drag up an old thread.. but, I was wondering, which manufacturer is the only one that is allowed to sell sports bikes? I wasn't aware of this rule that each bike style is only allowed to be sold by one company..

Don't forget the other rule where motorcyclists over react at the slightest bit of gentle ribbing.

The Australian ones shoot each other in car parks.

Since when did 'real bikers' follow rules?

A real biker knows that real bikers choose their own road, That doesn't make them ignorant.
