Bloody hell what a wake up call. Here I am just back from a cage-bound "2 screaming kids and a wife who wants to stop at EVERY pottery shop or gallery she sees" week long holiday around Abel Tasman Park (beautiful spot near Kaitereteri, highly reccommended, and Takaka hill on a bike would just rock) and what do I get? Torrential rain, slippery-as roads and half blind cage drivers doing 30 on the motorway (damn I was hoping to open her up for that last 500 metres or so).

I'll tell ya something for nothing...a week without a bike in a shitty hire car makes you ride real slow and cautious in those conditions.

Ahh Auckland, how I love you.

And whats with the 95% humidity last night? What a welcome home. Wonder if I can get a high paying job in Nelson?

We should filter down the NW together some day. You can follow my line. It's not hard to filter safely at reasonable speed in these conditions, but you have to avoid the potential 'must brake hard NOW' situations.

I had a fun commute too - took the car for the first time in a long while, and it was surprisingly stressful compared to the bike (didn't help having my wife go mental at me, partly because having her in the car somehow makes me drive like a dumb arse). I was lucky to get to work without pranging the wife's car, then I had to phone her to apologise for going mental at her for going mental at me
