Has anyone been told this? The one and only BP here in Wanganui has run out yet again. They are trying to tell me there is a nationwide shortage. Anyone else heard the same?

Yeah, both my local stations are out too.

'Tis a crying shame, because I love the service ya get from BP.

Dont worry guys.

From what ive heard. Its just been a shortage and the latest ship is late (or something like that)

And apparently all is supposed to be back on 98 soon (dont know how soon)

. So, fill up with whatever they do have .

All my bikes know, they get whatever I give them (and whatever is cheapest) and are thankfull that it's not kerosene. Y' gotta take a firm line with them, start pampering them, and they'll start taking liberties. Any arguments, 50/50 kero and 91.

I'm more bothered by the fact that I can't get 72 octane petrol.

Use white spirit.... that's close enough!

My Google-foo is stronk. It says that white spirit has an octane rating of about 10. Thats too low. It would pink.

Appaarently one pint per gallon of 95 octane reduces the octane rating to about 85. So 1 quart per gallon (but is that Yank gallons or Imperial?) should take it down to about 75. Which is about right for scrap iron. But it would be a mighty hassle. Kerosene is simpler. Bikes run fine on kerosene. So long as they haven't been spoilt and gotten big ideas. A walnut tree a woman and bike all three, the more you beat them the better they be. Do n't balme me it's folklore. Y' can't argue with folk lore. Kamatua and all that.

If your bike runs on kero it must have a PT6 or an Allison engine in it...

Out of it in Ngaruawahia today.

Isn't that a redundant statement, isn't a requirement of moving there?

I stopped for fuel today on Onewa Road BP - it's out of 98 too.
Just as well the VFR likes 91, unlike the Froggy French car my wife occasionally drives - it pinks on anything other than 98.

Apparently, they mine the 98 in the desert near Perth, truck it from there to the port, and ship it here in a ship. I think it needs a couple of weeks slopping around in a tanker on the Bass Strait to allow it to ferment propelry or summat.

I've got about 100 litres in my tank if anyone wants to make me an offer. Bidding starts at $4 a litre...

So whats the big issue ? Run it on 95 then, the only thing i stay away from is the ethanol mix feul !

Yeah I had a talk to one of the guys in the station and they misplaced a tanker  . They said it should all be back to normal today.

Glad some more is on its way. I use BP 98 to extend my tank range to over 400kms. That makes travelling out of hours heaps better. So the East Cape can be done when there is not much traffic for example.

You could always use Laphroaig Quarter Cask...it's probably cheaper...

hmmm read an article in the herald which said tests show that if X amount of fuel from any other brand gets you 100km's distance then the same X amount of fuel from shell will get you 105km's (5% further)

i dont know if 98 would get ou even further but this is just what i read.

interesting really. but my bike runs tikkity boo on 91 so i dont mind.

Said in the dom post today that there has been a problem/delay in the refining of it over in oz and the ship arrives in wellington tonight and will be back up and running with a full supply by weeks end.

With the latest oil strike off Taranaki (First Oil Strike (http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10558726&ref=rss))perhaps we won't run out again. :2thumbsupWe can ship the oil from Taranaki to Oz refine it as 98 and ship it back. It's got to be a more constant supply, quicker and cheaper. Makes good sense.

Anyway I prefer 95.

Is that what's going to happen though?
I thought all the oil sucked outta NZ was sold on the overseas market because it was more profitable than doing what you said.

Yep, Stupid huh! Logic would suggest using a local source. Crazy if we can buy cheaper overseas than from our own coastal drilling.:2guns:
