Here's a funny one for you guys.

I was stopped at some red lights and a police officer on a bike rode up and stopped next to me. In a situation where a biker pulls up next to me, i would say hello and might pull up my visor and have a bit of a chat. However, because he was a police officer, i didn't really know how to react. I just ended up acknowledging him and furiously trying to find a place to put my eyes. :p

What do you guys do around police bikers?

Having a warrented and rego'ed bike, knowing I have a full licence in my pocket, and not speeding.

I normally just say hello officer.

and have another sip of the whisky stored in my camelback.

Give them a nod, say hi and hand signal they can go first when the light changes... just as I would any other bike.

You almost make it sound like they are superhuman or something. Just wave and say hi like you usually do. :wavey:

I've had only a couple of experiences with Police Bikers while on my own bike. The first one was back in 1977, and I argued with him over whether my bike needed a mirror. Apparently they'd just changed the law, so he gave up arguing after a while, handed me a ticket and a free copy of the Road Code!

Second one was in 2000, and involved him yelling at me, frothing at the mouth, and otherwise getting rather excited (I thought his head was going to explode - pity it didn't). I have no fookin' idea what he was raving about, but it involved "ride like a proper biker instead of a bloody idiot", and had something to do with carefully filtering past stopped cars to the front at the traffic lights.

The last occasion was riding around Coromandel with a Police Biker on his Balckbird. We had a jolly old time, and he didn't give us (or himself) a ticket for any rules that might've accidentally got bruised.

'S obvious , you challenge him to a wheelie competition away from the lights.

Have yet to be in that position but I wouldn't do anything different than if it was you I was next to at the lights.

I'd say hi and probably talk about the bike in some way.

I had this happen just this morning. Police officer moved over to let me sneak in beside him. I said "good morning" and he said gidday back and we rode together for a km in peak traffic. These guys are just normal human beings, and I have always found if you say gidday that they will respond in kind...

i had a similar thing many years ago, there was a parking nazi at the lights on a honda stepthrough thing and i pulled up next to him on my Z1R kawasaki i saw the lights were about to ghange so i grabbed the front brake and a big handfull of throttle and let the clutch go and did a massive burnout , when the light changed i let go of the brake and left him in a cloud of smoke

ROFL, well aside from the burnout and wheelie advice, stories made for good entertainment. I do realise they are normal people (a friend of mine is trying to get into the police force as a biker), however i always get nervous and skrew up wen i know people are watching me ride, and cops are bound to be watching. I nearly stalled wen i took off! now THAT would of been embarrasing!

When police motorcyclists pull up next to me at the lights or are in formation with me i get paranoid, thinking somehow they can pin me on something and i will lose my precious licence, So i go uber slow whenever a cop is riding/stalking me.You know those times when you are going at a nice set speed you turn around a corner there is a cop there and you go past him 30kph on a 50kph road.

Do you ride significantly over the speed limit [120+]?

Edbear
26th February 2009, 06:49
Followed one into Taka the other day. He was being reasonable and riding a few kays over the limit but I passed him coming down to the Greville Rd on-ramp as he slowed behind a car in the left lane.

Began my usual split only to see him coming up behind me through the traffic. I wasn't being an idiot and normally pass Cops in cars who even pull over to give me more room. As he was splitting a bit faster than me I pulled aside and waved him past. He returned the wave and I followed him until Northcote off-ramp.

I usually aknowledge car and bike cops and they usually respond in kind. I guess a friendly fat man on a cruiser appears fairly innocuous and no great threat to society...

FFS what difference does it make if it is a M/C cop, courier or anything, they are on the bike.Say high if you want, don't if you don't,same as if I see a cop on the roadside I'll wave.If I've deserved a ticket due to speed and no excuse then I take it in the wallet, only had 2 arsehole cops ticket me.

One gave a racial serve at me being white, other wouldn't accept I couldn't see how he knew it was me going away from him, when there were another 2 cars behind me,albeit my car looked dodgy with paint etc,and in a 70km zone pinged me at 78km towards him,85km away from him.Got done for 85km and he picked me up about 1.5km away.

I wave to them all the time. Without actually meaning to, ie I just see a bike and automatically wave, then realise "oh , er , it's cop bike. oh well". Sometimes they wave back, sometimes not, much like other bikes. Too hard to try to filter the wave I just wave to everything on two wheels .

Yeah, I wave at them all... Just this one's reaction stood out... most respond with a nod.

Certainly have a bit of respect for them given the size of the bikes (hell, they dwarf a blackbird), and they still split etc... granted, it does have all those cool flashing lights which probably helps.

Just today I entered the motorway at Highbrook (in the car), merge nicely at 100k, flowing along well, then the entire northbound motorway jam their bloody anchors on to come screaming down to 80k

1 cop car sitting at the Princes St exit
