Hey folks Im floating an idea here to see who would be interested.
Im thinking of organising a Kiwibiker Trackday/rally weekend.
The idea being we find accomadation somewhere near Taupo track and meet up on friday night there.
Saturday we "do" a normal KB trackday from 8-5. pm or those not keen might want to do a ride.
Saturday night we have a feed and a few drinks. Sunday maybee another ride and head homewards.
it will be towards the end of the year -say october

I'll be a starter for ten. Usual terms and conditions apply.... Dates, money, oh and of course approval from the she who must be obeyed....LOL
More rally/ride aspect for me versus track time

Yep - would be keen but it would have to fit in with other commitments - of which there are millions dammit...will keep an eye on it though.

I kinda thought it would be cool to get KBers from all round the country together. Needs to be somewhere that has a licence and does food.
The track day is just an excuse --but a really good excuse
Taupo being kinda central is good too

What about something like a 'kiwibiker cold kiwi' as such, organise the trackday for friday, giving people plenty of time to organise work off etc and then spend sat day and night acting like bikers in a paddock somewhere.

Well I'm not going to Phillip Island this year... Wouldn't want to ride but can probably wave a flag or drink beer or something. Bit far off yet to be certain...

Rally and camping etc all at the track would be awesome. Some could do track day, some do rides and the rest hang around being biker idiots!!
Hell yes I'm keen for that!

Yes, now this sounds like the idea of a genius.
A wee dawdle round the lake perhaps for those that don't want to do the track thing...really the options are endless...
Must keep an eye on this thread

trackdays Im trying to keep to the $100 per person rate.
Mind you HMMM
A THOUGHT MIGHT BE TO BOOK THE TRACK FOR THE WHOLE WEEKEND.
The track itself is only 5 minutes out of taupo itself.
They have facilities onsite.
Im thinking trackday stunt day ride day -all based at the track.
Im just brainstormin here

Okay -
Track days from 9-3 both days.
Open stunting sessions for the less skilled between 3-6 both days.
Tent town in the paddocks beside the track (October, brrrr), or the smart ones will rent pit garages (but the smartest ones will crash at KatMan's!)
They have good toilet facilities at the track.
You will need breath testing to be allowed to ride on the Sunday session.
There are a couple of good rides - back towards Vegas and around the lakes (all of them). I'm sure you could get someone to stick their hand up and take responsibility to organise this bit.
Frosty, good on you mate.

Well ya know there's a few of us that'll stick their hands up for two trackdays, but then there is the hungover and still pissed issues to contend with !
You know how that could end up !
A hard night and tracks dont mix !
A trackday, hard night, then perhaps paddock slow races, barrels, mini's, general stupidity next day might mix !
Just brainstorming !

I know it's not as central but have you considered Hampton Downs if it'll be open?

But Taupo's closer to Napier :bleh:
( which is also more half-way for the welly K-bers :) )

Good cabins etc here and close to the track...
Only problem might be a noise curfew and so on.
Tents on the SW side of the track might be a better option for night-time revelry

excellent idea! I'd be keen depending on other commitments, yada yada yada...
How much is it total to rent the track? then we can work out how many registrations we need to make it $100/rider

Would they allow a function (see piss up) at the track or do most here want somewhere with accomadation ?
Was thinking if it was a camp rally ! The old Pits has a toilet block, the car club building (aint seen inside it but looks largish) And the shaded grass area is plenty big enough to camp half of kiwibiker !

What about talking to the QKs and see if i would fit in with the Turangi Queens Birthday Long Weekend?
Ride to Turangi on Saturday
Track Day Sunday
Ride home on Monday.
Accomdation is good at Turangi (basic but good) and cheap. Only down side may be that it is the end of May and might be a bit cold?

ER um yasee Im not goin anywhere near any track ESPECIALLY Taupo at the end of May.
2 years running I spent my birthday in hospital from Taupo track accidents I don't wanna risk the karma of a third :bleh:

Yeah may is a tad winterish !
That resin some idjit used to gap fill the patches on the track, is all good once it warms up, but the slightest bit of damp has it feeling like glass !
All good for what they intended it for (stop the Gp guys tearing the patches up again) but you only have to look at the number of bins on sunday morning (must have been 6 or 7 bikes go down in the morning) due to 1 or 2 quick showers to see it don't work for bikes !
Unfortunate thing is no one cares, they will still get the track hireage they always did during winter, it's just the bin stats that will change !
