Its me birfday at the end of the week and as I can't yet afford to get my dream bike I will probably be getting a tat. Long time in the making (20+ years) - tis a butterfly and wondering, esp from a ladies perspective - where the best place would be to put it. Its my avatar / profile butterfly design. Thoughts?

Hmmmmmm it is quite a sensual looking butterfly so I think it would be perfect on the base of the back of your neck.

Pubic mound. I love that word, mound. Although you'd have to keep well shaved otherwise it would look like a moth.

I think if that tatt has been 20 years in the making you should have spent some of that time thinking about where to put it.

Didn't think about the shape, but now that you mention it ... I can see why you'd say so. Like the base of the neck idea. Yes, have been thinking about it, but end up just going around in circles ie; hip, neck, sholder, thigh etc. Don't know if i'd be brave enough to get it to be a butterfly muff!

You're a chick. So I vote for "tramp stamp" or "arse antlers".

In order to give considered and relevant advice, I would probably have to inspect all possible sites closely...and at length...so I guess that counts me out huh?

LOL at the lads - typical! And sorry - the only person that would get to see it in such a 'moundful place' would be my husband ...

I think Tina has managed to hit the nail on the head with the neck option. It would end up looking quite stunning. Personally I wouldn't get a tattoo anywhere where it could end up becoming stretched (not being horrible just honest). Don't ever get a tattoo done on your stomach unless you have already had/don't ever want kids for that particular reason (well thats why I haven't done the deed yet). Anyway goodluck and post photos once its done!

Disappointing.. from the title of the thread, I thought we were going to be taking the piss out of cruisers and the shit that gets stuck all over them.

What size may also have an influence on where you want it to go. There may be times that you want to keep it hidden so somewhere that is easy cover up (but also able to be shown off) may deserve some consideration. Its a great design so it would be a shame for you to hide it from every one.:niceone: Nice one.

Its whatever size I want as its a design I made. As there is some detail to it then prob not too small. Mufferfly ... :innocent:

Im a fan of BIG tattoos on girls have a look here: www.inkedpinup.com for some ideas.
But I would go for hip, stretching onto one buttock and your thigh... it is a cool design and done right with the detail etc that should be stunning!

I'v got a tat of my own and wen i was choosing a place to put it, i realised that wen i'm a wrinkled old fart, the last thing i want is a drooping tattoo to go with my saggy boobs. Thus i decided to put it on my lower hip, low enuf that you can't see it in the ridiculously low cut pants/shorts they seem to sell these days. Get it done on the bone, it hurts less. As he got closer to my mound, it definatly go worse. (LOL, i bet the boys would b enjoying this). But geting it done in a private place also adds the bonus that you get to choose who you want to see your tattoo, making it more special.
But since it's your own design, you should definatly ask for suggestions from your artist. Because it's intricatly designed, there's only so small he can go if you want those designs to be seen. So just as and consider his suggestions. After all, you'l end up having to trust the man with the gun anywho.

Co-pilot's advice is:
Somewhere that doesn't sag later in life.
Somewhere you can cover up or show off - depending.

Only speaking for myself here but, I got my first reasonable sized tat on my left shoulderblade. 19yrs later I am still convinced that is/was the best place for me.
1. No sag issues
2. Only low backed items or singlets show it off. So I still get to choose who sees it, and I can show it in public if I choose.
3. Reasonably pain free site (worth considering if your not into pain)
Just my 2c worth but good luck and happy birthday for the end of the week.

Sholderblade is a good place I concurr.
My wife has a butterfly there, and she can cover it up at will, or show it off...
....and it gives me something to look at while we are doing things!!!:buggerd:

Above your bum (tramp stamp) or on your breasts should be out, lol stay AWAY from bone/thin skin if you can, fatty tissues are least painful.. Just my opinion here, but if you get it on your hips/pubic mound it should be fully covered by whatever you wear, else you'll get people staring constantly.. Shoulders, arm, hip all good places.
I got one on the back of my right shoulder, love it, t-shirt covers it fully, going to get another on my other shoulder, even bigger this time :D
Oh how original and meaningfull; a butterfly...
Shut up twat, not necessary is it..

Agreed, somewhere that won't get stretched/saggy (kids etc).. it's a beautiful pic! I like the base of the neck idea.. or a shoulder blade. :niceone:
Here's a couple of piccys I liked, to give you some ideas
Enjoy your first tat, it's special.. & ps: they are addictive... :shifty:

I'd have to increase the size of the image 10-fold otherwise it would just get lost amongst all that ... - I aint got no small butt!

Just interested as to your reasons for getting a tattoo? I think they are relevant and important in where you place the tattoo.
Are you getting it because you think it will make you sexier (visible some of the time)? Are you getting it cause it will make you more interesting (visible most of the time)? Are you getting it because it's a trend and everybody's doing it (ability to hide it 90% of the time when it becomes uncool or weathered)? Do you have kids that you are meant to be a role model to (ability to hide it all the time)? What level of professionalism is required in your line of work (ability to hide all or some of the time)?
There's a lot more to take into account.

I think mainly for sexiness / interesting. I have a deep passion / love of butterflies and have done many designs, this being my favourite. So far the idea of getting it done at the base of my neck sounds ideal as it would also cover a slight scar I have there too so it would also be semi-cosmetic. I don't have kids (neva will) so no worries there and I'm a housewife so no occupational hazards there. I'm about to turn 40 so am already getting a handle on whats going to droop too!
This is great hearing others thoughts, ideas and considerations.
Cheers!!! :2thumbsup
