Help help my GSXR 1100's havin a hissy!

Everything was fine, and THEN.... It wouldnt start for ages, it started back firing a few times while trying to start it, then it started but was sounding awfull like it was drinking water or running on 2 cylinders or having a bad spark or something, the sound is completely off like its got a massive hole in the muffler, (but it doesnt of course) then after 10 mins idling it comes right and sounds normal again.
BUT if I ride it it sounds awfull, has no power and sounds kinda like its starving for gas or the currents all up the shoot or something. Aw man I'm just a poor student this is killing me, what to do????

Besides the above I have not done anything else as yet, I thought I'd ask you guys first.

Potentially it's fuel (or lack of), spark (or lack of) or a mechanical failure (doesn't sound like mechanical at this stage....so....

Check your fuel first in case you have some water in it, drain the carb bowls and look for water coming out, cahnge the entire contents of your tank if it's been sitting there since last june.
Once you are sure it's not fuel check the spark at each plug, pull the plugs out, earth against the engine and look for a nice fat blue spark at each plug as you turn the motor over on the starter. Replace the plugs if they are the original ones....

Anything more than that and you are better off with a mechanic rather than diagnosis by internet, cause we are just guessing here!

drain the carbs then stick half a cup of meths in the tank mate and ride it a bit (10km) and see if that fixes it.

Pull the plugs & clean them with an old toothbrush then blow them dry. Reinstall & try ( mine used to foul plugs when the needles got worn)....

+1, start with the plugs, these old girls are a little tough on 'em, sometimes even cleaning 'em doesn't work, gotta change 'em.

Cheers all, I havent had a chance to do any of the above yet, but I'll post the results as soon as I have tried these things Cant wait to see what it is, hopefully it wasnt my hell bitch of a neighbour putting sugar in my tank or something. She rang 111 when National got in haha STOOPID old cow!!! But yeah hope it's not a major I'll be so gutted.
