Hi everyone, first post today, how's it going. :)

I was browsing some scooter sites yesterday & I justed wanted to ask if anyone had had any experience with these scooters? Are they made by TGB? (just looks a little like a Laser R5) I also saw something very similar on TradeMe advertised as a Forza Speedjet.

Hey mate how much are you looking at paying? If its made in Taiwan it wont be to bad, however i would still stear clear of anything manufactured in china. Personally i would go with a Yamaha Jog they tend to be the best price/performance/quality around. An example of toughness :)

Used to work for them (mechanic)

They say they have heaps of parts in stock... they don't nor can they get them

Don't go near that company.

Up to you, but don't come crying when it bites you in the ass.

Skid.

Well it depends what the car sells for I guess, but around $2-$2.5K. I'm a fairly tall solid guy so the bigger size & larger wheels/brakes kind of caught my eye on that one.

I wonder if I might look like an elephant on mouse on a Jog. But yeah I do hear that the Jog is a reliable machine, thanks for your comments.

What is steering you away from an actual motorcycle? why a scooter?

Mostly the cost of getting a license and the jump in rego fees from scooter to motorcycle. It would just be a commuting machine as we currently have 2 cars which is getting expensive. Would ditch one to fund this.

motorbike is only 200 a year for rego...

getting a motorcycle license will cost ya about 160-180

Then get an fxr150 or something.... economical but more fun :headbang:

someone at school had one. they are very slow and big for a fifty. Much better getting a twosmoker. fiftys don't really need good brakes unless your modding them, just keep the stock brakes adjusted well and you'll have no trouble stopping quick.

Its not a TGB, I'd suggest avoid it like the plague.

At $2495 its also very very expensive. There are still a few of last years TGB101s around for under $2k - just look around or p.m. me.

Thanks for your comments everyone, after reading here, the scootling boards and also thescooterreview.com I think I will probably stick with the tried and true and look at a Yamaha Jog or Honda Dio. I like the long history there and they seem to be suggested so often. Reading things like the below on the scootling board put me right off the R4, or any other "no-name" scoot.

"In the weekend we just pulled apart an R4 with a blown piston to find that the original cylinder and piston ports do not actually match very well, the inlet port on the cylinder has a wedge and the piston does not, and also the piston inlet port is not even close to matching the cylinder. http://www.scootling.co.nz/bb/images/smiles/icon_eek.gif

No wonder these scooters don't go very well."

Cheers

Before it was written off, I had a 1993 Honda Dio, Was a minta, absolutely wonderful scooter, fairly quick(for a 50cc)and good build quality, plus i like the design of the dash/speedo

In saying that, I only got to ride it for an hour, maybe longer term they might not be so great, I would suggest eating some pies, should cushion your arse from the horrible bumps in the road

I have to agree... we just picked up our new Jog which is going to be the feature of a "modifying guide" type thing. it is a blast even standard. But yeah either choice (Jog or Dio) would be a better option than the R4 in my opinion

Well I'm just waiting for my new Jog to available for pick up now, can't wait!

I will read the mod guide with interest, although I'm likely to leave mine stock for now. BTW I found the thescooterreview.com a really good guide when I was researching what to buy. Great site

I bought an R4 about a year ago and am very happy with it. It goes better than most scooters I test rode and has been very dependable. Rush hour did a review of the scooter as well which was very complimentary. Great for getting around town and parking. I have two motorbikes as well, but prefer my scooter for short trips around town.

these weight 105kg dry, the fancy breaks are all for show and ou will find all the branded parts such "NGK" plugs and "walbro" carbs are all fake copies from china.

if you want a cheap decent scooter that is fast enough to get out of trouble, i would buy the older model chinese scooters, buy a 72cc upgrade kit (no one will now its a big bore), get a high speed variator, change the plug to a proper NGK and do a full fluid change. as long as keep up the maintainance they will go forever and if anything breaks there piss easy to fix.
