ALL ATTENDING TRACK DAY PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING CAREFULLY
I want one and all to have a bloody good time so there are some points that are NON negotiable.
1) Bike setup/gear setup.
ALL BIKES and RIDERS GEAR going on the track must be up to scratch .
Heres a guide to refresh memories
No sharp/edges/loose parts
Tyres must be road legal for road tyres. (slicks to have visible dot marks)
ball ends on all levers to be in place.
.Mirrors removed or taped up.
No leaking fluids.--- OIL/fork oil/glycol/
GLASS headlights to be removed or taped up to prevent glass flying if you crash .Plastic headlights are fine
Pack rack uppers to be removed -L arms to be taped over-preferably plugged.(plastic wine corks are good for this )
Handle bar ends must have a solid end--NO open tube ends (PLASTIC WINE CORKS MAKE GOOD PLUGS)
Brakes to work propperly FRONT and REAR.
RIDING GEAR
A full face helmet good fitting with no damage into the shell.
LEATHER gloves,
bike boots,
cudura 2 piece, leather one piece or two piece suit.
A back protector isn't compulsary but VERY strongly suggested
THE ONUS IS ON YOU TO MAKE SURE YOUR BIKE/GEAR IS UP TO SCRATCH
If in doubt just fix it. -basicly if you feel you have to ask-is this ok? the answer is no
I wont be scrutineering but if I see anything odvious you'll be fixing it or going home.
-2 RULES FOR THE DAY -just a reminder
1 Show concideration for everybody else out there -
2 Stick to your line -Dont try to get out of anybodys way .
3 when overtaking make sure you can do so safely. If in doubt -DON'T
5 If a slower rider is holding you up use rule 3
8 when leaving the track pull to the far right side of the track and nearing pits exit hold your left hand up to let other riders know you are leaving the track.
9 if you are unlucky enough to run off the track-Raise your hand in the air to let us know you're ok.Push the bike away from the track to a safe place -recovery vehicle will pick you up or you can rejoin if bike is undamaged. The nature of the track means if you crashed in a spot theres a good chance someone else is likely to -If you dont move then I will have to stop the session untill you dont present a danger to yourself or other riders.
12) the PITS speed limit is 40km/h and is NOT a stunt zone--stoppies wheelies etc -I concider this dangerous riding and will treat it as such
18) YOU are responsible for your pit area -keeping it safe and keeping it clean
Track day timetable

Frosty, I might be in for this one...will check if I can get time off work first though.
Mort....Frosty probably doesn't want anyone there to complain and make up stories of how unsafe the track day was....lol! I guess not stating a lot of "fact" tripe on here sounds like a good idea now huh? - in hindsight of course? :msn-wink:

Folks I've just spent a fairly long time talking to Mr Mort on the phone.
It seems to me after talking that he and I have a very similar outlook to trackdays in NZ--even if we have somewhat different ways of expressing ourselves.
A message sent to me via PM led me to believe there was a very good chance of him instigating legal action against me if things went wrong at this track day.
I feel that that isnt the case after talking to him "in person"
Mort
5th March 2009, 18:31
Yes we have spoken.. and yes it would have been good to be a fly on the wall...
First off... I should say that I didn't send the PM referred to above nor had I ANY intention of taking any form of legal action against Frosty. I am no Track day fink. Frosty will confirm that I believe.
Second... It would have helped Frosty's understanding of my points if I was not on his ignore list and he was able to actually read them. As a result, a significant amount of misunderstanding and hearsay occurred.
Frosty and I spoke at length. We have agreed that we are both on the same page when it comes to track days. We are both enthusiasts and we both want the best possible New Zealand Trackday scene. I applaud his efforts and those of other track firms to develop the track day scene.
We both want to draw a line under this dispute and move on. What has been said is history and I want it to remain that way. The hatchet is buried. :niceone:

Waaalll what ya do see, is ya come to a track day with me see and ya let me try ya bike out on a track see and i'll let ya know if it was an experience or not !
Nah seriously you first talk to your insurer ! Ask them who you would be insured with, www.motott.co.nz www.redlinetrackdays.co.nz or www.kiwitrackdays.co.nz ! There seems to be some favouritism with different companies for different trackday companies which is a shame ! Be prepared for a shock when it comes to your excess (sp) and call them a training day when referring to them lol
And book in with one or if your really lucky (with your insurers) all of them !
See ya there (maybe) look me up, i'll sell ya a fridge !

9th March 2009, 18:12
Hows about, instead of just endless track-time, you set up a race or two. Impromptu and unofficial, but off the grid, flag down. Boom! I suspect there would be several contenders for such an event....Say 10 laps on Track 2? Easy enough to put the cones in place. And at least on track 2 this contributer has some level of competitiveness with a certain hairy person and a jolly, rotund Ge'mun, both of whom tend towards taking advantage of an aging biker on and aging bike....at least, till there's a few tight corners and not so many straights.
Just a thought. In fact you might like to participate. And knowing you, you'll turn up on a borrowed R1, or better. But that's okay. Team Zimmerframe won't mind towing you through the corners in his wake. :--)))))

Tis staying a tad damp till 11 am anyway Dave, can't see much other than a few mild set up sessions till lunch with maybe an exhaust change, then a few 1234 combo's at full noise (like the 600's are doing to me), prolly roll on through to T9 a few times lol, time i checked the back brakes still work anyway. Then scrape the pegs in 11, test the stomp next lap keeping the same revs, up the revs the next etc etc .
The chicain, now i know where i want to be there lol its all about hitting it right and then exicutin it, have cut that corner once now after a missed gear, that one wasn't fun, know not to do that agin, it aint easy to rejoin there, cause ya aint doin much slowin down till ya have rejoined the track (like sliding through a stop sign) !

The thing is, William...If Frosty has the nads to allow such a set-up...you know, like an impomptu race or two, I'd be in.
Question being, has he?
So there's the Q. Have you got the nads, Frosty?
Yeah, sure, there's all the rules and regs. But hey, when this country got started, it was started by men and women who didn't give a sht for the rules and regs. They just got on.
That's what we've lost. The spirit of just getting on. In favour now is safety, so all of our kids want to sit in front of fucking computers rather than get out there and hack it with reality.
Me? I'd like to hack it with the hairy-one and Mr You-Know-Who, in a semi private race. But oh gawd...THE LIABILITY! It's always the fucking liability which gets in the way of adults having fun.
I rave.

Sticking with the 1050, figured i was losing a bit with having to fight the bike to stay on ! Trying some stomp grip and using this trackday to realine the body so i'm gettin off a bit more like i do with the 955 !
Must get my entry in too !
And Frosty's right man for the cost of a spring ! Shit you nailed that tyre in one track day 2nd hand, but you sure finished it ! What your gonna gain in cranking the preload will take up all the static you had bugger all of anyway, so ya might end up with a waggily tail ! haha woof woof
Prolly wouldn't hurt gettin in touch with shaun Harris and pay him a couple of bucks to sort it, he might have the right spring rate there !

No not Minefeild.. But hey why not the land alongside Auckland airport.
I always though that would make a fantastic place for a track.
Spose you'd never have to worry about the noise factor haha but there is always the chance of someone getting the two strips confused, in his glider !
There was talk of someone building a mega drag/race complex just out of foxton there for a while, i wonder what happened to them !

Nah, we're only in Tauranga so we'll be trailering both bikes down on Tuesday morning. The 600 is in race kit so isn't road legal anyway.
Cajun has kindly offered to take the RSVR out first to get it set up all nice for me, and also because it's safer for him to ride it before he's been out on his 600. He worries that he'd slam the RSVR down too many gears and throw himself off it

Still think two groups race/fast and moderate/novice as i don't think you'll get 20 race bikes unless ya can time it for the day before a race day !
25 per group on the full track aint that many either as they soon spread out !

Tooo much Frosty. Thanks for putting this on and bringing my new toy down. And it was a pleasure to meet you William. Not many 13 year olds would have had the courage, discipline and skill to do what you did yesterday mate.
Was good to meet new faces and greet old.
I think I have worked out why I binned too. I was starting to get a bit aggressive into turn 3 and suspect I may have feathered the throttle at some point soon after the transition from 2 to 3 and simply overloaded the front tyre. Very suprising as I don't remember backing off and was fully focussed on setting up for turn 4. I thought I was accelerating. What it has made me realise though, is that I need more time on the new bike before racing it. I would be too dangerous at race pace so I wont be at PMCC round 3. Besides, my wife will be off playing ambulance officer on Sunday and I need to look after the kids.

That was a much better way to ease back into track riding than doing a normal track day. Traffic on track was virtually non-existent so I didn't have to look out for anyone. Could just concentrate on getting back into the groove and getting the feel back again. And those that did pass others didn't get groups of 3+ riders all jammed into the same piece of track.
I reckon for the next one have a max of 25-30 bikes on track at a time. Just closed pit exit until there's some bikes come in then open it again. Reason being that everyone there yesterday didn't feel pressured into getting their moneys worth so they didn't stay out if they made a bit of a mistake. They came in, sorted through what they did wrong and then went back out when they were comfortable again. Fix length sessions can see people staying out when they should go in and get their head together.
Excellent day. Will be at the next one too.

Turn 3 catches quite a few peeps out when they're riding at faster-than-they've-gone-before sort of pace, I suspect - the camber shifts off after the T3 apex. If you're going to whack the throttle against the stop before you set up into T4, be ready for the back end to step out.
kiwifruit wrote off his ZX-10R that way. And sinfull can testify that GSX1400s look real good from behind going slightly sideways at that point... aye!

It certainly caught me out. My memory of it was the front end washing out (and there were very clear marks on the front tyre) as I was accelerating through the apex after settling the change of direction from turn 2. But this doesn't make sense unless there is some change in track surface there that I just doesn't matter when going slower. I didn't go back and have a close look after.
I was on lovely new racetechs that were up to temp. It was definitely faster than I've done before. Probably fastest I tried all day to be honest.
