What will you use your new bike for? If touring, you'll want some extras and torque and possibly 2-up capability. If commuting, narrow, light, nimble and economical spring to mind....

I'm looking at getting a SV1000 as I do quite a bit of touring, but first I have to get rid of me 250 (trademe not an option) thinking of trade IN...

I don't know what aftermarket panniers / top boxes are available for the SV1000, nor how well they fit / affect its handling.

I'm not into faired bikes, so can't tell whether a sports (assuming you aren't looking for a naked SV1000) has a decent enough fairing for touring.

I enjoy the SV650. The SV1000 having 50% more torque / power can only be good for touring with a pillion and / or load.
