Hey Guys and Gals,
There is at least one parking warden ticketing bikes and scooters parking on the footpath again. Seems to be a very recent development. Warden 151.
Seems bloody unfair as I thought the Council said last time that they were going to tolerate it as long as there was adequate room for pedestrians.
It also seems to reek of revenue gathering as we heard recently that the wardens have been put on a quota system.
There has been a spate of ticketing for dubious reasons like the rego sticker not visible, when if the warden had taken 15 seconds to look he would have found it not 20cm from the plate.
Did you know that a warden can repeatedly do a bad job and there is no way to get them reprimanded or given a warning. If most of us repeatedly made mistakes at our jobs we would be given a letter of warning and eventually loose our job. How can they expect a high level of competency with a system like that?
As you may be able to tell I am heartily sick of hearing stories from riders of getting tickets for this sort of thing, and the almighty fight you have to get the ticket dropped. Time, energy and stress with no apology or compensation for their mistake. There is no incentive for the wardens to get it right and no repercussions if they fuck up.
Perhaps if they are wrong they should have to pay the ticket. Or the council should have to pay the value of the ticket in compensation.
Rant rant rant.
Cheers
Mark

did you get this in writing - seems you (we in general) need to work with the council. If you have left room, and you have the above in writing, take a photo and send it in.

Nah, I have rented a garage space for that just a wee walk away from work. Wasn't one of my bikes fortunately. Just pisses me off as the council say something and then don't stick to it. Worse still they have "said" it's ok, but you don't have a leg to stand on as the rules don't allow it.
I have watched wardens walk past the bikes parked on the footpath for 6 months, check the wofs and regos then move on. So what was different today?
Consistency would be appreciated so everyone knew the rules.
Cheers

Well after a few motorcycle crashes I guess it was inevitable that someone named Mark would earn the nickname skid. It kinda stuck, as it would.

Consistency is a two way street.
Rules are (made to be) broken... you know the risks if you do...and get pinged.
Not having a leg to stand on, is always a good start to a nice rant...

Time, energy and stress with no apology or compensation for their mistake. There is no incentive for the wardens to get it right and no repercussions if they fuck up.Then try this ;
If they give you a ticket that is clearly bullshit, then write them a polite letter explaining the error. If they won't let you off, then do nothing whatsoever and wait for the court summons. Then tell the judge you explained politely in writing and then calmly went back to your life, and now you are here explaining it politely again. Give him the documentation to prove it, and then politely ask for costs thank you very much.
You might also ask the judge if it is ok to tell the city representative how you feel about this, since you are an emotionally literate person yadda yadda yadda, and then give them a fucking earful lol. I'm quite sure that will be very satisfying.
I seriously doubt that the city traffic department will cope with many embarrassing moments like this, particularly if the newspaper is there to report on it.
Don't get all stressed about shit like this. It's just a game, and at the end of the day if you do get a fine its just a few hundies - life goes on, don't beat yerself up.

They don't need to be competent, they're revenue gatherers for the least perfomance-based organisation around, local government.
Their being incompetent brings more money in.
