Hi,
Just signed up to Kiwi Biker today because I'm going to buy a bike in the next few months (in 2 and 1/2 months to be exact) and thought there was usefull information here that could help me purchase one and stay alive. Staying alive being the important part!
My riding history: Basically nill, rode a 125cc dirt bike for fun afew times, and used to own a 50cc mini chopper that got me to work when my flatmate couldn't take me.
I don't need something that's going to break the sound barrier, but I don't want something that won't sit on 100kph because I will be doing both city comuting and also a fair bit of short distance (shore to city) motorway riding.
I took a Suzuki 250GSX 2004 for a test-drive last week, and that had plenty of power for me. Liked the look and the feel. Although, my riding experience isin't enough to really judge if it really felt like crap/motor was stuffed or if other bikes would be a much nicer ride. Or if a different bike would be more comfortable/better steering/better for my size (6foot 2")
This may sound immature/stupid but I do want something that looks fast/sporty to the average Joe Blogs and something that looks new ish. EG don't want a 1980-1990. 1992+ would be ideal
What would be very helpful is if someone in the club lives in the city and would be willing to give up an hour of their time to come and look at a bike with me, to give an experienced riders perspective advice. Not asking someone to find a bike for me as that's the easy part but just to check over it for stuff and take for a road test. I know the general stuff like tires, suspension and breaks (car experience) but not anything to do with the clutch, gearbox or motor. Or if the bike has been dropped.
If anyone has any comments, or lives in town and would be keen to help out it would be much appreciated.
I see there are quite afew rides/training sessions that the club runs so I will defiantely be keen to join in and enjoy the riding. I met afew people that may be on here at Bar Africa, I used to work there and there is a motorcycle club that goes there weekly to meet up after their ride.
Cheers
Aaron
