Just good to note that others reckon nothin much selling on Trade me except real cheap junk., ...serve you right if you buy it.
Had a couple of good bikes on there for months, bugger all response.
So I think that it is time to TRADE not sell.
Instead of selling i will TRADE that seems to be the way around this recession TRADING not selling... Im happy with that.
I have entered the words trade and swap in my ad, and have got a few offers of trade but nothin yet to suit me.
Any one have any others good ideas , apart from giving them away, which I wont do, not that hard up ...yet!!
This time last year it took about 7 days to sell a bike, now about 7 months.

no one wants to fork out large amounts of cash in the current financing situation, and coming on to the end of summer as well,
not really the best time to sell any year

Selling is easy if you are realistic about the price. Seems to me that a lot of people just list their bike on tardme at some ridiculous price and just let it sit there in the hope someone will bite.

I sold my GSXR1000K3 with sorted suspension, K+N filter and race pipe - for $7000.
Realistically if i'd invested $1000 in it it could have been worth $9500-$10,000 but I needed the money and that was the price that was going.
There are a number of bikes still advertised at prices that I think would have been a bit on the steep side back in November before 'recession' was a commonly spoken word in the media.
At the end of the day now is not the time to be selling, it's a time to be buying if you can afford to do so off your own back. If I could i'd be buying a house in the near future, but as for bikes i'm looking at what will suit my needs and is within an affordable budget - not what do I want, and can I afford to pay it off over the next 3 years.

Interesting how Alan Bollard told us to stop spending last year or he'll put up interest rates, now we clearly have he tells us we have to spend to keep economy going and is lowering interest rates!! Can't have it both ways Alan.

yea as above. at the moment you have to be bloody competetive and it has to be damned well worth the money. i just bought a bike and it was damn good value. but theres others cheaper listed that can't sell.

Prices are so reasonable - looking for investment property is cool, low interest rates and people who are seemingly desperate to sell with no buyers... Even tradespeople are much more reasonable. I had a guy who quoted me a stupid price for a fence call the other day - he apologised for the silly price and then quoted one about 40% of the original quote since he was now hungry for work - I told him at the time that he was being a greedy prick - his response was that he had people queing up and could charge whatever he wanted... It was satisfying telling him to fuck off a second time...

Just bought a car from trademe - was a good buy. I have been flabberghasted by a lot of trademe prices letely though. There seem to be a lot of people who don't realise that 25% of depreciation occurs in the 30 or so seconds that you ride a bike out of the showroom.
there are an awful lot of $7,000 bikes being advertised at $12,000. No wonder they're not selling.
I'm about to list a 2003 Falcon for less than $10,000 - that's less than 1/3 of its original value only 6 years ago. Just need to get the panel beaters to fix the car park scratches and dings first.
An object is only ever worth what someone is prepared to pay for it NOT what the buyer wants.

The people that survive recessions relatively unscathed are those whose prices and service are reasonable all the time, not just when they're forced to be. Build clientale loyalty in the boom and you'll continue to work through the bust.
Anyway, what fucking recession? This week I got asked if I could do more hours, not less. How come I'm not going to get to work only 9 out of 10 'working days'? What did I do to deserve such cruel treatment?

You and me both buddy, I could seriously work 18 hour days, we're so busy. I'm taking business off our competitors - we have that unique quality of offering a significantly better service to our customers, and magically, it's at a significant reduction in cost...
How is the bike, you all repaired?

I just bought a new car - it was kind of funny, dealers were putting the prices up on existing stock, claiming the exchange rate was causing the increases. I'd believe that on stock that had not been purchased yet, but on cars they'd had on the yard for months?? Tui.

That is so true, what recession? The people who have lost big time are those who got too greedy or banks giving loans to morons who were never going to pay it. It's just unfortunate that some companies prefere to start with the workers when it comes to save on costs instead of themselves.
And I too have no trouble getting extra hours so I have no trouble getting some extra money to do up the bike with new tyres, WOF etc.. as I too am going to list my bike on Trademe but like some people here have said, I'd be more happy to trade, for me a Honda VTR or Suzuki SV,then cash. Cash would be good if I'm lucky to sell so I can go to bike shops and haggle.
By the way does anyone notice the art of Haggling returning yet? :argue:

These days there's too many slippery weasel-type fuckers infesting the country. They think that rogueing and ripping other people is an acceptable part of life. If they've got something to sell, they'll cynically try to fuck-over any bastard they can - if they can get away with it. It's all snake eat fucken snake. Look at the multitudes of greedy wankers on trade-me, all tryin'to rook-off old shitty fucken H1's, Z900's, XS650's, Rd350's, CB's, etc... for thousands and thousands. They sit there for fucken months clogging up the fucking system. Wankers wanting $350 for a spare wheel with no discs or sprocket. Prat-heads asking $750 for a pair of spare fucken forks with no triple-clamps. Yuppie fucktards wanting $450 for a pair of used discs. Self-important fuckers wanting $200 for a used fucken tyre. Plus postage. And so it goes on. I've had it with these motherfucking rip-offs on motherfucking trade-me. When are all these arseholes gonna join the real world. I don't know what the sports bike section looks like or the others.. but cruisers sit on Trademe for over a year at times, just to sell. Not everyone has a few thousand sitting around to buy privately.

The bastards I'm working for had the cheek to ask me to come in at 9. I told them that would be quite disruptive as at that time I'm usually settling down to watch a little TV after my dinner. They tried to tell me there's a 9 in the morning too! :shit: When the hell did that happen? Investigations into that continue... :sherlock:

SNIP!!Watched a dohc cb750 motor drop from around $450 down to a price I was satisfied with. Lucky I did as it was pretty obvious the donk had been beach raced, something the seller never mentioned. Also had casing damage that wasn't listed which I asked a question about prior to hitting Buy Now. Got my money back on scrap thank goodness and have a few internal bits n bobs I can use.

Personally, I'd be rather chuffed to only work a 12 day fortnight.

Seems that there is alot of crap bikes out there, on trade me.
If they are cheap then, then there is a generally a reason.
You can easily pay $2,000 for a bike only to find, the forks a leaking a bit
the chain probably needs replacing, the linkages and bit and pieces are all sloppy and loose, small oil leaks around motor seal etc etc this means you can
easily spend an extra $1000 bringing back to "good condition", which it was originally described as on trade me.
Mind you, some people have no idea that things are wrong with there bikes to start with so they call them good condition in ignorance.
Be careful what you spend your hard earned cash on.

Be careful what you spend your hard earned cash on.I love crap bikes. You usually loose very little on resale. A buyer who doesn't try before purchase is asking for trouble. Cash in hand gives you bargining power. The odd seal leak isn't really too big an issue if you're capable of sorting it out yourself.

Remember: idiots on tardme who want outlandish prices make your listings (good condition, reasonable price) so much more attractive.

Amen to that. I've bought and sold a few bikes on tardme. I got done like a dinner once, got a good buy another time, and got what I expected another time.. One unknown quantity but I paid accordingly. Fun and games. Never ever ever ever ever buy something without looking at it first and taking it for a spin. (unless its a Vincent or Indian Chief basket case.....)
