Why was it considered necessary to rename my thread?

If I wanted to say something different in the title - I would have! (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=93638)

Thats an incredible level of micro-management and displays a fairly disturbing mindset.

At the very bloody least I would have thought that asking via a PM might have been a good first step.

I'm sure it was done with the best of intentions but it smacks of officiousness and "mother knows best". You have clear rules and guidelines around how to post on this site - and they are pretty standard to most other forums I frequent. I saw no breach that required an intervention - if there was one please let me know.

If there was no breach then ask yourself by what basis do you, as an individual, change what I, as an individual, wrote?

Just because you CAN do something, it doesn't mean you SHOULD.

OK

Yeah yeah I know this may fall into the 'storm in a teacup' box

:baby:

I just was gob-smacked that someone would change a title saying
"Revealed!!"

to

"Victory Custom revealed!"

Why the hell bother??

I was going for a little bit of mystery which is easily circumvented just by hovering yer mouse over the title and reading the first line of the post.

How bored do ya have to be to change someones thread title for chirssakes?

I opened it while it was named "revealed" as I wanted to see who had revealed what, but if I'd seen the title as it is now I wouldn't have bothered and would have missed out on seeing a pretty cool looking bike, so yep, can see your point.

Such witty editing leaves me completely in awe of the abilities and judgment of the moderators of this fine site.

I just arrived - what have I missed?

Was this thread always called "Call the waaambulance...."?

The other thread was called "Revealed!!!" (I HATE multiple exclamation marks though) and was then renamed "Victory Custom Revealed!"

The thread starter has complained about the first change but what was the second change from?

I think the latest thread title covers it all really.

So that's pretty much it.

Whoever did change the title isn't worried about explaining themselves - not able to another 2 minutes out of an obviously busy life to say "Look sonny - I changed it cos I can and you can stop bloody whinging and piss off!" (which is the most likely response, it would appear).

Good job mods

well done

Give the Mods a break. The change of title clarified the topic and I'm sure drew more interest. I usually just check for New Posts and its a 50/50 call as to whether I'd have looked at Revealed - probably thought it was pron or something inane....

So why not say so?

If you missed out on looking at it - hard luck. Theres 100's of posts per day, you're going to make value calls on them for any number of reasons.

I don't post a lot and so I try to give some thought to them. Now - the mods won't know that, who the hell could keep up with the comings and goings in this zoo?

I'm just irritated at the arbitrariness of it and, to be blunt, the reponses from other mods thus far in THIS thread haven't exactly soothed me - so now I'm pissed off.

I've moderated on enough forums to know how things fall in the cracks and also how sometimes you get into a zone of just making decisions without giving them too much thought. I always found feedback to be welcome though - so I gave some.

That was SUCH a good idea

KB is a totalitarian dictatorship and always has been. We live with it. We might not like it but sometimes the positive outweighs the negative and you learn something new or meet someone that becomes a good friend.

I long ago found out there's no fucken point complaining....or offering constructive criticism.

I hear ya

It's not the only forum like that - not by a bloody long shot. It makes me laugh when people rail against the high-handedness of authority. Give the average Joe or Jane Blow a little bit of authority and the natural inclination is NOT towards tolerance and consensus - we live in a tribal world.

My biggest problems are my iconoclast tendencies and parents who taught me that people can learn.

Oh dear, oh dear, what a dreadfully fraught situation we have here.

Thread titles are the site's window to the world. The Moderators reserve the right to make alterations to thread titles that are offensive, vague or ambiguous, or just plain silly. The vast majority of titles are fine, but a few are adjusted for clarity.

Minor alterations will be generally be made without consultation. There is little to gained from hugely time-consuming correspondence over something so trivial.

This site currently runs at about one Moderator per thousand members. The workload can be quite considerable at peak times. On average, there is usually only two mods on-line at any one time.

A minor modification to a thread title is not a big deal.

And I confess, I made the mischievous change to this thread's title.

Lighten up.

Well thanks for actually giving a response with a bit of thought behind it.

The change to the title of this thread didn't come as a surprise.

In the absence of a reply from the whoever changed my OP about the custom bike I'll take on board your comment about clarity. The original intent was to intrigue - I'll aim lower.

One mans "trivial" "minor" matter is another persons thoughtful contribution. Condescension and mockery irritate the fuck out of me and thus this has become a fairly long winded affair.

Yeah yeah - HTFU, get over it and lighten up.

Always, always well received

Virago - I didn't appreciate the tone but I can understand when people have to deal with something that they view as a distraction (I do it every day) - so genuinely thanks for your reply.

Thread titles are the site's window to the world.

It's a pity threads aren't somehow grouped into related subject areas, so users could divine the content of threads from more than just the title. We could call these groupings "discussion subject groups".... (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/forum) or something.

Oh wait....

He's made the point that its a stupid modification ,Makes the thread title redundant by listing what is revealed, Hell, its in the cruiser section so we already know its going to be something related to cruisers.

Personally I'm over it, But he has a point.
