Folks,

My VL250 is out of warranty and just come up to 6000km; time for a service .
I call up two well-known Suzuki dealers in Auckland and ask what it'll cost and what's included, to summarise the two answers "an oil and filter change and check and adjust all over, and that'll be $300 thank you".:eek5:

I really don't think so.

I've now done a couple of quick searches on KB but either got zip, or a bazillion useless hits so apologies if this is covered elsewhere. I am a newbie so I don't want to start a small job and have it turn into a major - which is what can happen with my other DIY efforts ...

First off I can't find a manual anywhere for the lil Intruder, if anyone can point me at where one might be that would be great.

Oil change on a VL250 - question coming, but first: internal oil filter behind a chrome cover, 3-nuts securing. What looks like regular 17mm drain plug underneath the engine - it's bloody obvious really.

I've checked the web and it looks like a piece of P***. however, I don't have a torque wrench and I didn't get a new washer for the drain plug when I bought the new filter. I promise not to over tighten and also promise to oil the O-ring ... can I just go for it, or is the sky going to fall on my head due to a) no torque-wrench or new washer and b) angering god of bikes through ignorance/arrogance??

Have a go, run the bike first to warm the oil up (makes it quicker to drain and gets any gunge mixed up in the oil to drain away). Be carefull with the hot oil!

Both of my Suzukis have a steel washer and don't need replacing every time. I don't use the touqre wrench just do it up nice and firm.

Give the bike a good check over at the same time.

You be right....clean the airfilter to while you are at it.....check bolts and nuts coming lose etc....
take your time and gently tinker...
be good for you and your bike

'preciate the feedback so far. :niceone:

I kind of know it's a no-brainer ... too many beers taken this avo to go for it now tho!
Next weekend I'll have to park the wife and kid elsewhere and get down to some serrious tinkering in the garage - sure sign of being 40+, right?

Skol and thanks.
