Who has made their own foam air filter?
Working on a pre-filter prototype for airbox and Selleys Kwik Grip glue came apart in Kero. Will try Ados F2 (as suggested by Para Rubber) but looks exactly the same as kwik grip to me?

I've used silicon (no good for sensors on some EFI systems, apparently) and hot melt glue. Both were great! :niceone:. (Although I had to work fast with the melty stuff, and burned my fingers).
Many solvent-based glues, such as rubber or contact cements will fare badly under the onslaught of our crappy petroleum distillates, which are high in toluene, xylene and other awesome solvents.
Oh - and stay clear of any Selleys products - they're all crap.

I have used araldite type epoxy before, with no obvious problems after 2 years.

Ive made quite a few of my own airfilters, over the years, using sheets of the Unifilter green foam & hot melt glue with no problems at all :)

Try somthing from the knedit range (May have spelt wrong) I used there metal type epoxy on a old fuel tank once and its fuel proof. Metal type wont work for you but they have differnt types. Good luck there is very few of any thing fuel proof weather its glue, plastic or basic sealers

Thanks cheese, I could well be into that. Para Rubber had the 10 & 20mm coarse foam for the prefilter, but none of other grades. I'm now thinking of making a larger main filter as well. Will PM you when I get around to the job if that's OK? Any chance your Dad has a lighter colour for the coarse grade? Black is such a stupid colour for filter foam - hard to see how dirty.

I must be missing something here.
Why bother making one when you can pick up one off the self for not much at all?

Ah gotcha.... Just going to make it harder for the engine to breathe.... but you'll get better filtration I guess.

He is in Napier, but you he has just about any thickness, firmness and grade you want. I'd say you'd want mainly 5mm??? (in thickness). I was hoping to go down to Napier sometime soon, but I've got to work it round my China trip.
