I've just tried to pull the pics off my Camera, when the batteries dies during the transfer. After putting in new batteries, I tried to finish the job, only to fing that the memory card is corrupted, and I need to re-format.
Anyway I can still get the photos off?
It's a 512Mb SD Card.
Cheers.

Do you know anyone with a USB card reader thingy? You could try taking the card out of the camera, put it in the card reader, see if any of the files on the card show up when you browse it directly on the PC, instead of via the camera.
Otherwise you could try taking it to a camera shop, see if they do a "Please rescue my photos off my corrupted SD card" service. Last time I looked this ran to about $20 or so, they'd rescue what they could (no guarantees) and copy them onto a CD to take away.

I've heard stories of people losing their entire collection of photos taken on their OE due to the SD card dying.

Its really hard to lose the entire contents of an solid state device. You were probably unlucky enough to get data corruption in the file table which might look like all your data is gone, but its not. Most data recovery software like GetDataBack will have no problem recovering files when the file table is corrupted.

It pisses ya off don't it. I video'd & photo'd the family farm during the fires & had the bloody camera (a new olymp) freeze up & say write protect. Couldn't take anymore pics. The pics downloaded ok onto the PC but not any of the video. Apparently this model doesn't play well with non-olympus cards 4Gb & over. It's $50au to retreive at a shop. No guarantees that it'll work. Still can't use card. Hard lesson. Are SD card readers expensive?
Did you retreive ya pics Gubb?
