hey im new here so hello. Last week i brought a gas gas ec200 2002 and its already stuffed out. i checked the top end and all is fine just wondering how to check bottom end how much play side to side in the conrod should there be? my bike died on me and when i went to kick it it made a crunch there is some marks down by the bottom of the conrod on either side looks like the piston has hit.. anyone know any good two stroke mechanics with resonable rates ?? please help huys want to get back out triding cheers.

gutted, were did you buy it from? you should talk to the guy you bought it from. was there any work done to the motor prior to you buying it? are you able to post some pics??

Hey phil, sounds like the bike you brought off me a couple of weeks ago.
Something doesn't sound right, piston wasn't that old, and new bearings were put in the bottom end. We checked the play in the bottom end and everything was in spec. As the cases were split we put it back together and replaced anything that needed. which was 3rd gear bearing, selector fork, crank bearings, and a fresh top end.
Barty5 on here knows my bike prob better than me so might be able to shed some light as what you said doesn't make sense.
Just a quick note, you mentioned changing the mixture, did you keep it the same? And did you let the bike warm before riding?

Don't panic mate, the bike was good when I sold it. To me that doesn't sound like the bottom end. If it was the kickstart would be seized.

manukau city how do you tell what has gone in the bottom end should the crankshaft have play left and right.

As rupe stated everything was sweet in side (if this is same bike) and had been running sweet. if you want you could bring into work shop in newmarket as rupe has said it its sezed up you wouldnt be able to turn ova. good chance somthing in kick start may have gone.

yea the bike went mint all last weekend was going great on sunday then was just riding along when it died like it was out of gas then when it made a crunch when i went to kickstart it. i put it on the trailer striped the head and found it to ook fine other than 2 slight marks down by the conrod any ideas ??

Yes there should be a little bit of play left to right. If you put the crankshaft to the top & pull on it there should be no upwards play.
Problem described could be many causes, primary drive gears, clutch cogs, some gearing gone & jammed, kickstart mechanism broken.
Until seeing the bike & taking off the clutch cover etc you wouldn't know.
Have you dropped the oil & if so were there any chunks or shavings in the oil?

The workshop manual I gave you will let you know how much play it should have. And it will give you all specs to measure for the bike.
Sounds like the kickstart mechanism to me. You can follow that manual to get to the kickstart or see if a mechanic off here will do it for you.

trust me my dad is an engineer we heard a crunch insid of the engine. the kickstart would get to a point then crunch it sounded like the piston was hitting something?

i think its something to do with the kickstart as well. either the spring or the mechanism itself.

if the piston had hit something there would be damage to both the piston & bore. pistons are aluminium & the bore has a nickel plated sleeve which is very soft hitting the slightest thing will cause visible damage.

Welcome to KB phil86, I was the guy on the KDX who stopped to see if you needed a hand and went to get you a tow (although your mate beat me to it.) Didn't sound nice when you demonstrated the 'noise'.. Trust the guys on here offering help, they're cool....

Unless the piston is seriously the wrong one it should not be able to hit the bottom of the crank. Without hearing the noise and seeing the bike it is hard to think what it could be. I have fixed a bike that was just the kickstart mechanism even though the owner thought it was the crank bearings...
Different types of crunches and knocks can represent different things going wrong.
Am happy to have a quick look at the bike but I'm all the way over on the shore.

Its not the wrong piston they take wiseco which I ordered in for rupe through my account with the importers its the right one. From memory there are not many sizes availiable. If it was wrong it would have had problems a long time ago.

Thats why I think it is more like the kickstart, but without seeing and hearing the bike would never now. If he brings itover to you let us know what it is.... Curious to know now.

Sounds like teh kickstart to me too. Sounds like the spring has broken and the kickstarted is not returning properly.
I don't think that it would have shit the bottom end or piston. I rode that bike at the end of last year and it was going fine. You should get at least another 80 hours out of that piston.
