ps if anyone is interested in Slicks we have about 20 sets to sell, these are awesome trackday tires, most of them have only been used for 20 laps
they are all the latest dunlops, price is only $200 a set (just to let you know we paid $680 a set and after 20 laps take em off),depending on your riding style, they will do 1-3 trackdays easy the fronts lots longer.

Im Shy and retiring and, actually thats not enitirely true, Im just a procrastinator, but anyway....... anyone got a bit of shed space free tomorrow, I wont have stands with me (bike will just go on sidestand) as Im too NOOB to need to do any tinkering with the bike. But by the end of the session the decision was made - I need a track bike.

I chatted with Quasi, TK3, and Sinful. Rode around with them for awhile too. Turns out they're bigger pricks in person than they are on the forums! But then, I probably am too. Seppos usually are.

Got GREAT footage of TK3's crash in the fourth session, and HEAPS of video of Quasi (mostly because I couldn't get past him, Christ he takes up alot of track).

Awesome day! I'll try to post some videos tomorrow. I'm wiped out now.

I took the bandit 400 this time for a change, hadn't done a track day on it since May last year. I had a great time, it's quite different to the SV. Kind of makes me appreciate the sv's good points more.
I put the 0.85kg/mm fork springs from the sv into the bandit which improved things over the previous springs I had in the bandit (1999 R1 springs which were slightly too large diameter causing friction in the tubes and too soft a rate). But I really noticed the difference in damping from the sv with 20w oil and emulators to the bandit with 10w oil and standard forks.
Also, at the last track day on the bandit I had Dunlop GT501's on it and had rolled off the edge of the rear tyre a couple of times before realising what was happening. This time I had Pirelli Sport Demons which performed a lot better (ie didn't roll off the edge).
I'll post a video tomorrow.

It was a pity about the oil on the track and the abnormally high number of bins causing delays. But these things happen. It was good the sessions kept going over lunch to make up for it (Thanks MotoTT and the volunteer marshals!).

I don't think i could ride today lol two days of it has wrecked me !!! But what a grouse day yesterday, they turned on the weather again, not even a wisp of fog like fridays redline day which took till near lunch to have the resin resembling something other than an oil slick !
Speaking of which, the cone chicane added a new twist, with either a tight line or wide one ! Quite enjoyed that !
And speaking of twists, anybody get Eds pirouette oil skating manouver on camera !
Like the idea of the lunch break being a 2 minute wait on the grid for group 4 while we changed marshals ! Didn't mind doing that at all lol, was a great spot to watch from (apart from lots of neck movements) lol and then just went out in group 2 to make up time i missed in 1 !~

I must get me one to ride down at my mates place (has a top grade MX track he built for his boys racing practise must be 1.5 to 2 k long wicked jumps and all the cool shit) ! Great to get the ride fitness up ! i was a slob on friday after only doing mothers day for the last 3 weeks (ok still a slob) but at least i was handling 20 minute sessions by the end of saturday !

I had a blast.

Being a trackday virgin I reckon I am allowed to wax lyrical just this one time :innocent:
Could barely sleep friday night cause I was sooooo excited and even beat the 4:40am alarm. Met GSVR at the Gull and loaded the blue beast up, it knew something exciting was in store, packrac off, cowling on and an early start usually means some fun to be had:ride:

The rain on the way up never really materialised but being in the van meant I could doze and try and keep the adrenaline under control.

From the moment I walked up to pre-registration and Peter recognised my name to following other participants along the side of lake Taupo on the way home it was a fantastic experience. This was my birthday pressie to myself and one of the top ten ever. Credit card meltdown and a track bike are on the horizon :yes:


I was blown away by the help and support I recieved from all and sundry. I don't need to tell anybody how helpful and fun all from MotoTT were. I never expected the level of personal training that I got both on and off the track. Special thanks to Peter and all the 'liners' for letting me follow them ,be followed and quiz them on return to the pits:rockon: Even giving advice on tyre pressures and suspension and a chat by the map about the double apex.

I met lots of new friends, caught up with a few I haven't seen for a while and the weather was kind to us too, what more could I ask. Thanks to all in group 4 for good overtaking, some nice lines to follow and a great atmosphere on the track and dummy grid. Fun to meet Donna from Taurmanui another 'virgin' on her CB1000R, see you out there again soon I hope :yes:

From the girl on the coffee cart who was enthusiastic and encouraging to another girl who came to say bye to Sinfull and took the time to tell me she thought I had improved over the day. These epitomised the atmosphere of all at Taupo on saturday.

I am hooked :ride:

Great day, great people and bxxxdy great fun. Can't wait til the next time.:2thumbsup: Anybody who hasn't given it a go should get booked up soon.

Thanks Motott et al. Had an absoloute blast on Saturday wobbling around in Group 4. I was going to type up a big review but its all been said before, particularly by people much more eloquent than I.

It was quite an eye opener and definately different than the road. Ive read about the lines being different on the track but one thing I found difficult at first was appropriate gear selection. It took me a couple of sessions to stop "commuting" around the track and to get the bike in a more (lower) gear to keep the Revs up and get some actual drive/speed out of the corners.

Definately a humbling experience, Its true though, its addictive and I'll definately be back down there again soon. I CAN ONLY GET BETTER (I hope)
