mate haven't done my full there yet but did my restricted at browns bay a month or so ago and asked the tester what the difference would be for the full, he said just more driving at 80-100km/h range. He said for the hazard perception you just drive along for a bit and he asks what you saw. They have ear speaker systems so I assume he asks you to nodd or shake your head when he says "was there a hazard?", alternatively I guess he gets you to pull over and asks what he saw. Had a moari fulla for an instructor and he was golden.

No, there is a list somewhere near the back telling you exactly what will be in the test :stupid: Failing that, get on line - I'm sure the appropriate official site will tell you. Once again, good luck.

heh which would be how I found this thread. :D
But anyway....... There is some info buried in the first post HERE! (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=91247&highlight=full+licence+test)
Finally decided to get off my bum and I'm sitting my full next Tuesday (could have taken care of it ages ago, but was never really needed for my commuter bike so didn't care). So if anyone that's sat it recently has any handy tips I'd appreciate it. :2thumbsup
I got my full class 1 and my class 6 restricted a few months back, basically the instructor said it was pretty hard to fail the restricted and full license tests as long as you remember to give way and have both feet on the ground at stop sign.
Hazard detection for my class 1 was retarded, all it involved was saying shit like "car on right, car straight ahead" or " pedistrian on pavement".

I just did my full test today in this lovely auckland weather.
Was pretty easily, even with the horrible conditions (rain + very gusty wind)
My advice is
don't ride like a muppet
obey the road rules
relax

as c.h.r.i.s said just relax....
you passed your restricted, the full test isn't really any harder.

Ummmm.....it's called 'hazard detection' because that 'car on right, car straight ahead, and pedestrian on pavement' can really fk you up if you haven't seen them and they do something unexpected.

Tell the examiner he's a hazard... and no I'm not being cheeky... if following you he could rear end you as well as your bike.

I agree. They usually have a one way radio with ear piece over your ear.
Or if they are cheap arses like orewa he will follow you and indicate where he wants you to go so you have to keep watching your mirrors.
He will tell you to start looking for hazards now. then from that point just remember the hazards including whats behind you then he will tell you to safely pull over. Walk up to his window and yabba yabba.
For anyone who hasnt sat their full i recommend going to a place you dont know at all. I went to medowbank near botany and im a westy.
Easy test though.

I have just passed my full licence test, did it out west. Try to pick a time early on a weekday morning if you can, most of the work traffic has gone.
The hazard ID was a piece of cake, there were none. I ended up down a dead end suburban street, and NOTHING was moving! (I forgot about the guy behind me, but he didn't mind)
Remember to indicate, don't exceed the speed limit, and try to visibly move you head, I thought I was doing OK, but it was mentioned that I didn't move my head enough, not a fail, just a note.
Relax, have fun. The official test proforma is in the road code for motorcycles book thingie.
By the way, I have a GN250 for sale...

Well ok that was pretty bloody easy! :done:
Just sat the full test in Kilbernie Wellington 30 mins ago.
No harder than the Restricted test really.
Just relax, remember to indicate in time, both feet on the ground when you stop and make sure you move your head when you look so the tester can see that you are looking.
Was all over in 20-25 mins. :Punk:

I did mine out by westgate and they used a earpiece to give me directions.
From memory We just went for a drive, he told me to "take next right", "pull over" etc... As for the hazard identification he just tol me to start looking, then he got me to pull over and point out the hazards, didn't even get off my bike...... Also I had to point them out when I came to an intersection.
As for the riding it was piss easy, just relax and be safe. And remeber to make bold head movements to check each way and your mirrors so the examiner can see you doing it.
Good luck and don't worry to much, think my whole licence ride was done within 10 minutes.

Good luck mate. My 2 cents is to remember to identify the testing officers car behind you as a hazard. Ask questions if you are unclear on anything and for gods sake dont forget to breath deeply.
Its not hard, you'll be fine.

I'll be booking mine late April - did the restricted in the Hutt Valley 6 months ago and it was pretty comprehensive. Probably took 30-40 mins, although I think the tester had a noobie tester in his car with him so it was all probably about the noob getting skilled up on how to run tests.
I can't imagine my full will be too much harder, although in the Hutt I hear they take you up the motorway a bit (between the Melling and Kennedy Good bridge from what I've heard). No drama, I'm on a vespa it's lucky to get up to 100k.
If you see a dog mention that in your hazards, they have a tendency to run out onto roads. Also any right turning traffic is always a hazard - so I'd be mentioning that too.
Good luck people, will let you know how I go in a month. It's another milestone towards an August Triumph Thruxton purchase - hehe.

I did my tests out at Orewa. The have a "full" facility there, so you can do both the test and the "admin" there in one session.
Orewa is also much quieter for doing the test. For the obstacle test I had to keep riding around and around, because none of the intersections had any vehicles.
Eventually they stopped me and asked what I saw. I said "you", and a car way off in the distance. They were happy with that.

I didn't even do the hazards when I did mine in Taupo. He just said I was sweet as. I asked about doing the full car license (still on 1R) and he said it's the same but we just talk about hazards. I just said I'm a biker so everything is a hazard.... lol.
Test only took about 10 minutes, easier and quicker than restricted.

OK, just finished the full Class 6 at the Lower Hutt AA. Testing officer was "sally". Very pleasant, clearly told me what we were going to be doing.
The course is pretty similar to the restricted, for those that know the Hutt, it's out of the AA centre on Waterloo Road, pretty much right up waterloo rd then in and around some of the little back streets.
Hazard sections were a bit of a dissapointment for me actually - basically no hazards, except for the the tester behind me, which I mentioned. There was a woman walking on the footpath which I mentioned but no vehicles on the road at the time.
Then back down through the Hutt and up Harcourt Werry Drive which is a 70k zone. A k or so up, then turn around and back down through the Hutt back to the AA centre. I almost screwed up at the last minute with an indication frenzy round a round-a-bout. Had to move to a left lane, indicated, then around a roundabout indicating back and forth and as I came out I thought to myself what a shambles, anyway, we had a bit of a laugh about it and I passed anyway.
Coincidently as I arrived back at work, my bank manager called to say she'd approved my loan - and the Triumph Thruxton arrives at Motorad late July.
yay!

Im sure you will do fine. I got full class 6 a few months ago, and only problem i had was unwelcome combo of wind noise in helmet and low quality of wireless intercom that tester uses. I had to pull over once because I didnt have a clue what he was saying lol. Still passed though. Trick is to ride like your nana is on the pillion seat :D

you other guys did you have a ear piece in your helmet, and he gave you directions, on where they wanted you to go.

3rd July 2009, 20:44
Make sure you don't go over the speed limit, ever, and don't drop more than 5km/h before it.
Make it obvious you are looking around for hazards my making sure your helmet is moving in an obvious manner, and don't just use your eyeballs.
Don't take any risks, and err greatly on the side of caution.

I found this forum advice brilliant, the NZTA website bullshit just confused me and got me nervous. The truth is it would be fairly difficult to fail the full license, its not really about following rules in entirety (anally), more so a commonsense approach to riding within traffic. The guy on the headset even said "stop driving like a granny and show me how you really ride" haha. No questions were asked at the end but based on my research I tend to think a few things to remember for the test are:
- bold head moments to mirrors, intersections etc
- both feet on the ground when stopped
- report the trainer who is following you as a hazard, along with everything else
- practice your u-turn a few times prior to the test
- then... give back your mates shitty 250cc, relax and enjoy riding the large capacity bike that you've had for ages!! (but no longer worry about being pulled over for the wrong license!!)
