On some other threads I mentioned that sadly my Bro' passed away in January after a 9 month battle with cancer and now I'm having to tidy up and clear out his stuff and of course amongst it all are his photos.

These will be a bit in a random order, but the first I'm onto are from the Marlboro Series at Wanganui in Dec 1976.

First pic is Croz on the Z1000 followed by John Woodley on the RG500, second pic Stu Avant TZ750, third pic Jeff Sayle RG500, fourth pic Warren Willing TZ750, fifth pic Woodley in front of Croz (it took a few laps for the GP bikes to run down the big 4 stroke), sixth pic Martin Bayliss Honda 125.

OK here's a few more for you:

Pic #1 Vaughan Coburn - we all loved the naked chick on the fairing of the TZ350, #2 Barry Wylie TZ350 - he's got the old twin shock, #3 Chas Mortimer TZ350 & John Woodley RG500, #4 Coburn followed by ??, #5 the Wanganui success story Pat Hennan RG500.

Yep , Vaughan Coburn it was, and Barry Wylie, was he Dale's brother ? Thanks for putting them up Merv, when you look at the crowds in some of those shots, it was very popular. Gaz.

ps I wonder what the gate takings were at Streets meetings of the 70's ?

Yep Barry was Dale's brother, I'm bound to find some pics of Dale but earlier on because I last remember him at the '74 Marlboro races at Wanganui. Problem then was me and my Bro' never had such flash cameras, basically instamatics while only the pros had the good cameras.

Crowds were great and there were generally no fences except at the corners to keep people back from the track, made the whole atmosphere so different.

I haven't looked at them yet but Bro' had a box of the Gracefield photos from the same year so I'll see if I've got time to check them out at home tonight.

There will be many others too I am sure.

OK I told you we didn't have such good cameras way back, well here's the Onekawa Grand Prix pics from October 1972 taken on the old Instamatic. No moving shots - just as well.

Pic #1 some cool spectators that rode T90 Wolfs and CB and SL 100s and stuff like that and dig the Ace bars on the CB100. #2 Alan Collisons CZ400. #3 mmm wrecked CB750. #4 Ginger Molloy & Dick Waterer, #5 Geoff Perry's bike (no sign of Geoff), Trevor Discombe, Dale Wylie, Ginger Molloy, Dick Waterer. #6 Peter Ploen's Bighorn

Here's one for Koba, the scene is Gracefield Grand Prix 1973 and the bike of course is an A100. Back in those times Tony Burrell (RIP) from Napier managed to become the NZ 125 champion on his warmed over A100 - quite an achievement I thought at the time.

Yeah was great and I could never understand why its not still on because that area still isn't one that would worry about the streets being closed in the weekends.

I have a blurry memory of discussing this with Nige of PMCC at the Manfield Nats. I think he said something about there being a number of businesses that operate out of there during the weekends now. If it wasn't that, there was another equally good sounding reason.

I wish they still could organise races there, i'd be keen as to help out, i live just across the road from the old onekawa circuit!

No, poor Tony of race fame drowned at sea in the Bay if I remember rightly a few years after the pic was taken so that was probably late 70's maybe early 80's just can't remember exactly.

Jeez they bring back some memories,I was at most of those meetings on an R5 YAMAHA,Dont mean too nitpick but Dales brothers name was Brett and the reason you cant find any record of Dale after 74 Marlboro series is cause he went through a wooden crash barrier at Timaru during the Marlboro series round there and paralysed his hand and was forced into retirement.Went on to start Aerofast tiedowns

My old 100cc twin yamazuki (T125 Wolf Frame and 100cc cast iron barrelled yamaha motor) was taken to levels in early eighties and ran third for the day in the 125cc racing class. It was a pretty quick bike considering the low budget we raced on. I could post a photo of it but would be ashamed to let all of you see the jellimeat tin mufflers I built!. (it's true)

Here's some more shots for you from my Bro's collection, this time from the January 1977 Marlboro Series races at Gracefield. This was just a few weeks after the big Wellington floods of December 1976 so the road had been patched in quite a few places. He labelled them as follows:

#1 Crosby leading (the big four stroke could jump off the line compared to the GP bikes but got reeled in later), #2 Crosby Z1000, #3 Warren Willing & Stu Avant, #4 Start of 400 production, #5 Peter Littlejohn Suzuki 380 (dig the chrome carrier on the back - at the top National races of the time), #6 Into the main straight.

#1 Hard cornering open production, #2 Terry turner & Mark Reidy, #3 Through the hairpin (is that Peter Stark?), #4 Marlene Bailey RD400, #5 Woody Kitney Z1000, #6 Crowd leaving area (you may have been there that day).

Great thread mate, thanks muchly!

All we need now is a sound clip recorded on one of those ol' suitcase style reel to reel tape recorders.
