A young asian guy, ambulance staff appeared to be working on his leg and he looked okay. The good news is the bike didn't look too bad.

I rode past the scene, too. The CBR was up against the right-hand side of the motorway, rider was sitting on the left-hand shoulder talking to a bike cop.
I actually thought the bike looked a bit munted, frame and forks could have been bent.
Was it one of ours? Anyone?
My friend saw it happen and pulled ova. The car indicated and changed lanes at the same time, went right into him without looking. Apparently he tried to move over but didn't have enough time. Managed not to hit his head or the barrier, but only had jeans on and has a wicked chunk out of his leg. She said he did well to avoid being totalled. He tried to get up and walk around but a big bloke picked him up and made him lie down to get ova the shock.
Lady 'international' driver in cage was v. upset but said she didn't know you have to indicate for 3 seconds - duh.
Kinda shook up my friend a bit as she usually rides along there but was in a cage herself today.

What do you mean by"international"??? Speak up man, before I start thinking bloody asians or bloody towel heads or curry munchers that cant drive.. gotta know which variety so i dont pour unjustifyable wrath towards anyone one in particular.
lol... nothing like beating round the bush..
Does anyone have any clue if he was taken to central? My bro is back in ED again (he broke his leg, and the saga continues), so he might be able to find out how the guy is doing..
btw, out of all the problems and complications he's having with his leg, he's now in with an extreme allergic reaction to something! Poor kid.. Just thought it was funny, so I'd share his misfortune

Thats not nice talking about camel Jockeys like that. But yea, they always have bloody excuses :brick:
More info then;
my friend was driving a red car - not station wagon tho... so could be the 'nice-lookin gal' you saw. Rides a grey GSX250 when she's on 2 wheels.
bike had broken clutch, and cracked fairings but not too bad really
male asian rider was taken to Auckland in the ambulance as his leg was stuffed, so probable when to ED.
'international' always worked for me before, but the driver was probably yugoslav or something similar - absolutely freaked herself, was bawling her eyes out and very upset.

Ah, right. I only glanced at the car quickly, probably wasn't a station wagon, then.
It was definitely red, though. She was talking to the bike cop.

Presumably where she's from the coloured lights that adorn each corner of a vehicle are there for decoration and serve no real purpose except to play with while moving the steering wheel... "up click click... down click click" :angry2:

No, where she comes from they have a lever beside the steering wheel that magically clears all traffic out of the neighbouring lane the instant you flick it...
I take it that "International" is the licence she was driving on?
How do they work those licences anyway? Do you have to pass a test that indicates you know enough about the road rules of other countries (at the very least, the rules of the country you're visiting) to be allowed to drive there? Do you have to pass some kind of practical test (where you get to drive on the opposite side of the road with a few stunt drivers around to mimic the traffic of "forn parts")? Or do you just pay a fee and get a bit of paper that says you're allowed to drive anywhere on the planet despite the fact you haven't yet fully mastered your own country's road rules?

I saw the bike on the way to uni around 9:30 this morning, it looked like the forks were pretty bent.
It doesn't really matter if the lady knew the 3 second indicate rule or not, I'm pretty sure most people (including me) don't bother indicating for 3 seconds. What it comes down to is she didn't look before changing lanes (or she just didn't see the bike).

No not me. I don't wear jeans anymore. Doesn't sound good, be careful out there

Well...in the cage, I'm getting quite conservative and give lots of indicative warning, Fat lot of good it does most times, as well.
On the bike....the manouvres been and gone in 3 secs!

When I was going to the States a couple of years ago, I went to the AA, took in a photo & handed over $12-$18. Voila, an international car & bike licence after about 5 minutes. No wucken furries about even what country I was going to. Valid for 1 year so they advise that you get it just before you leave NZ.
As for indicating 3 seconds before manoeuvring, why bother - you can do it as you're making the move or even as you're about to finish it, that's if you're even going to pretend. What gets me is the indicator goes on & without even looking the move gets made - it's a licence to do the manoeuvre whether it's safe or not (mirrors - that's for putting on make-up & doing the hair, isn't it? Or checking out the guy behind ;))
