I have cut back on drinking, not that I was any big drinker to begin with but, as it stands now, maybe I will have 1 or 2 over the weekend, dont drink during the week. The problem is.....I cant settle on/find a drink that doesn't give me that acid reflux bullshit. Rum is my drink of choice (Appletons I perfer) but that makes me fall over and damage myself within about 5 hours.
Premix? Cody's gives me the squirts, I have tried others but they are fuckin disgusting. Vodka/bacardi/gin...all female drinks (not sexest, the truth) Bourbon/Whiskey I can live without, never been a Whiskey fan and Jim Beam is ok, but cant drink to much of it, get that reflux thing. I dont like beer that much, maybe the odd Heinny/Radler but thats about it.

Now, my very first top shelf I ever had was Brandy/lime/lemonade.
Thinking I may try Brandy again, have not had it in years.

Is it fair to say that, the darker spirits give you heartburn more readily than than say, the clear or lighter spirits?

I'm going to stop drinking just as soon as this recession is over.

Rehab's for quitters.

One word buddy Zantac. Then you can eat and drink whatever the fuck you want without that "acid reflux bullshit". I too suffer from it and bourbon doesn't help the situation, but I get reflux from a glass of water, so go figure. I therefore have nothing to lose by drinking alcohol... other than my mind and my money...so cheers. :apint:

Try yourself a chivas regal on the rocks, maybe mixed with Ginger Ale if you don't like straight liqour.

Otherwise try a warm hennessy - the trick is to heat it up in a water bath. I think a couple of double shots will make most people light headed and ready for a lie down.

Whiskey may be an acquired taste, but a taste for (good) whiskey is worth acquiring. Worth buying the good shit though, Bells/Grants etc are crap and give me reflux too.

Oh, and for the reflux, Losec/Omeprazole. But go see your doc, swallow the camera, find out if you have a Helicobacter Pylori problem, they can clear that up with antibiotics so you don't have to take pills forever.

Otherwise, welcome to the ulcer club...

Try out caiprinhas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caipirinha) and mojitos (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mojito). Use a decent rum for either of them - traditionally it's cachaça and white rum, but using a good rum just makes them even better. Very good for hangovers and you can make them just as strong or weak as you want - so you can get more or less than 5 hours out of your rum if you choose.

Oh, and for the reflux, Losec/Omeprazole. But go see your doc, swallow the camera, find out if you have a Helicobacter Pylori problem, they can clear that up with antibiotics so you don't have to take pills forever.

Swallow the camera is a very very nasty game which I never want to try my hands at again, if I can help it. I haven't tried anything before or since that was more uncomfortable than that - more painful for sure, but not more uncomfortable.

I find that running and staying somewhat fit helps to keep the hernia in check. I still drink what I want, eat hot curries and drink all the coffee I care for - no worries these days.

Mmmmm. Mojitos V Good. But must be taken lazing on the beach. A hot beach. Like in Thailand. Never heard of a caipiriwhatsit, or the main ingredient, for that matter. Note to self: Must get out more.

Yeah fitness helps with all sorts of stuff, as does a general low-stress lifestyle. (I knew there was something I was doing wrong...) But with drugs I can drink what I want, and spicy food is no problem.

What absolutely kills my stomach, Losec or no Losec? Custard slices. Not the filling - the pastry and icing. And I'm wondering about coffee, too.

The caipirinhas are just made with a Brazilian low-quality rum-like spirit. A bit to rum what mescal is to tequila. Rum is superior - but more expensive.
And both are fine on a sunny NZ day!

Really? Ketamines meant I didn't feel or remember a thing...

In that case you were spared the experience of what felt like an hour of convulsions while doing all you can to try and relax and not punch the doctor and tearing the fucking thing out by yourself. It was not nice. Similar feeling to dry retching continuously for perhaps 5 minutes. I was lying on my side, and during the procedure saliva production goes nuts - nice to get on your bicycle and pedal 5 kms home in late autumn in Denmark with a spit-soaked t-shirt... not.

Yeah, when I had camera down my throat... It reminded me of when, as a kid,I held the dog down whilst the vet cut his stitches out. I miss the dog.

Honestly the endoscope through the femoral vein was less traumatic than the hoover hose down the throat. Take all the drugs you can get.

As for drinks! Discovered a cocktail bar in Onehunga at weekend. $30 gave us 2 drinks. Late at night seemed worth it. Very good drinks. Later in week, still seems worthwhile. Was a very good night out. Brambles in Onehunga. Cheesy 80's music and a bartender that seemed a wee bit autistic/intense on making drinks!!

What has this to do with acid reflux. Well not sure, had a few drinks. Maybe time for bed

Oh yes you are so right. When I had an endoscopy I manned up and refused any drugs. Wrong. While I lay there with a something the size of a firehose working its way down to the stomach, the gag reflex kicked in bigtime. So there I am trying to hurl this bloody thing out and screaming Ruuuuuuth....and the damned surgeon is laughing. Reckoned it was the best stag roar he'd ever heard.

Oh yes, tres humourous. :crybaby: What really got me was he talked to me immediately afterwards and expected me to remember! So anyway, yes hiatus hernia, operable, my choice. So far I've stayed with Losec.

Even worse was a barium colonoscopy and trust me guys, that's a ball of laughs all by itself.

Just in case anyone is interested, you clean yourself out the day before by drinking Klean-Prep (Sodium Sulphate, Sodium Bicarbonate, Sodium Chloride and Potassium Chloride). This is the nuclear bomb of laxatives. There is a description somewhere, probably in jokes, which is worth reading because it describes the explosive power of this stuff far more accurately than I.

So next day I'm strapped onto a table which rotates in all directions. Barium is pumped into the bowel while a team of sadists in green hang about and pretend to take x-ray pictures. Part of the process requires being upside down to make sure the barium really gets all the way up to the illium.

A few weeks later they sliced me open and cut some bowel out.

Thats enough, I'm sweating just remembering it.....

Losec, exercise, keep the weight down.
