Yes I am bored at the moment. It is great to meet other KBers, but lets look at another side to that relatinship, your pets. You can tell a lot about people by the sort of pets they keep and how they treat them. So for the sake of fun and interest show us a pic of your pets and tell us about them!

Here are my 2. Haggis and Nessie, (see the Scottish theme here?) Springer Spaniels. Left is the boy Haggis, daft as brush, right is the girl Nessie, both lovely dogs.

Post a picture of yourself if you think you look like your pets too. :2thumbsup

I have a pet pussy. I stroke her every night before bed.
My bro recently got a new pussy. She's still quite young, so we have to be gentle with her..

We've pet rats at home. Welll.... they're not actually ours - they're the boys. Brucie, Houdini, and Shibby (the rats, not the boys).

actually, I do have a contribution to this thread tho..

here's my real pet, Milligan.

the pic of him on my laptop was a few months ago, he's looking at a pic of himself even younger still. The laptop is the same in both the pics, but he's grown a tad.. I think there was 3 months between that first one he's looking at to the one we took of him looking at himself..
He's getting big and a bit moody at the mo, but that might be cos he hasn't had live food for a bit, and he's moved house, so he's not too impressed..

I like lizards. Have I said that?
I HATE CATS, I just wanted to say that again.

They kill birds, mice and anything else that'll fit in their mouth, they lick their own arses, and before you say it - yes dogs lick their privates, but so would I (lick my own) if I could reach. They're selfish and only want attention because they want it, not because you do, they moan, they want me to buy them a bike, they spend all my money - oh hang on , no that's Ms Biff. Not that Ms Biff licks her own arse mind you. We have servants for those types of duties.

My girl is Poppy, she is an English Bull Terrier cross (got her from the SPCA in Dunedin) and is about 5 years, she's a great pooch, with personality plus! She went through a stage of being really disobedient and I had to get an animal behaviouralist to help me with her...surprise, surprise it turned out to be my fault b/c I had been giving her mixed signals & confusing her. Dogs are a pack animal and if you don't lead the pack they will!! Now she's great...except for the small incident at New Years when she ran away at 10.30pm on the 1st of Jan and arrived back 5am on the 3rd of Jan! Arrrrrrrgggggh. She's a joy to be around and makes me smile & laugh.

My pussy is a neutered male, Morris is his name or Mo Mo or The Mo Man. He's about 10 years old now and we got him when he was about 6 years old from a friend who was moving into a place where they weren't allowed a cat. A sad/happy story about the Mo Man is that when my previous partner and I split he took the Mo Man with him and then was basically a slack arse and he ran away (the cat not the ex). Anyhoooooooo...we had looked around the streets and put up signs trying to find him and then 1 night I went over to the ex's to drop something off, and I hear his very distinctive meow (I call it the smokers meow) and it was Morris! The poor puss has been lurking around the neighbours across the road!! Morris is the BOSS of the cat/dog relationship and has administered some reminders to Poppy on occasion. He's the most laid back cat I've ever owned, he's not one of those psycho ones that purrs and then attacks you. I love my pussy!

Oh yeah - I also have 3 goldfish, used to have 5...oooooppppsss, I was busy studying and, well, ummmmmm...ooooopppppps, I really must clean the tank more often! :pinch:

Obviously you did not say the word BEACH out loud.

If you'd said that in our household, you would've been "hounded" (excuse the pun) and driven mad until you had done what you said.

We have 2 dogs but middle daughter has one of them now, thank heavens, and the other is so old, he doesn't hear too well. Just sleeps all day.

And that is good. More time for riding (the bike). :ride:

I used to have snakes in aus.....
Yeah mate same here..... and a lizard about 2 foot long fat bugger at that would sit on a rock every day at the same time the dog would run up to it barking its head off.... the lizard would bark back which would stop the dog in its tracks and run back inside dumb ass would do it again the next day.

Also had a quadzillion parrots, umpdeump bloody crows, Gecko's galore (which was good no spiders in the house apart from the odd Huntsman the size of ya hand) beatles the size of a 50c coin (the dog liked crunching them up) stick insects the size of a small tree....... and my favorit, Bats... love bats, they had leather jackets just like me, but I could ride better than they could fly, but spose it is hard landig upside down.

Wow! It's Lizard Central. What sort of beastie is Milligan? And where did you get him from?
Milligan is a Central Austrailian Bearded Dragon. We got him at about 8 weeks old and he was about the length of my pointy finger.. Now his body is almost the size of my palm and head to tip is about 45cm in length. He's still got a little more to grow, but pretty much almost done..

We got him from Jensons, and we were one of the first in NZ to get one since they relaxed the law a little :shake: Used to be that these (like most lizards and snakes) were protected, but it's all been relaxed now. So it's just the lizard that costs a fortune, not the lisence..

He's a cool dude anyway.

Used to have a beardie in the UK.. Rep point for guessing his name, and another rep point for figuring out the link! The names are linked, and think that this guy is the second.... :spudwhat:

The pics aren't actually of our Blue Tongued Skink -we haven't got any pics so strayjuliet pulled some off the web - same model, different year, accessories pretty-much standard.

My sister breeds Blue-tongues, Bearded Dragons, Water Dragons and turtles (various makes) - she has a reptile farm.

The one we have belonged to my dad before he died and we inherited it.

Tell your wife that if your get your dog as a pup the cat will be able to dominate it. Then as it grows up the cat will have a dog protector for when it cann't handel the stays any more.

We have had this situation on the farm before. Wookie (my parent's last cat, a spade female) used to boss Patches (their Bull Terrier/Mastif cross, also a spade female) around. But if a stray cat came and hassled Wookie, Patches would deal to them. We never encouraged Patch to attack cats (quite the opposite), but the ones that used to keep attacking Wookie did not last long.

I have posted about Slyvester before (See http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/images/misc/paperclip.gif In Memory Of Slyvester The Cat (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=8234) ). My other cat is Kaless (yes it is Star Trek and, for the real Trek nerds, yes the Trek spelling is Kahless). PT, Zapf, Jess and Ant have meet him.

I LOVE DOGS
I know I keep saying this, but these wonderful photos remind me why. Big ones, little ones, fat ones, thin ones, fluffy ones, miserable looking ones. Gorgeous critters.

We recently got ourselves a Hunterway cross Alsatian from the rescue pound named Buster. He's great with the kids, full of energy and surprisingly obedient for a 6month old pup.

Hunterways are new to me, as I'd never heard of them while living 'up north'. What a great breed. Shame my bugger barks at me every time I take him out with me when I jog. But I undrstand that they were bred to bark at lumbering animals.

No photos as of yet I’m afraid, but plenty of him on video.

But I undrstand that they were bred to bark at lumbering animals.Hunterways are awesome. Had one I had train from a pup for stock work. Taught him to head (which he did well considering I had been told that Huntways don't head). If you took the horse out you never had to worry if he was following or not. If there was no Hunterway baying then it was time to call him. I named him "Chew" after Chewbarka (?? spelling, the Star Wars Wookie) because that's what his bay sounded like. It used to crack Dad up everytime I told Chew to get behind the farm quad:

Hi FzerozeroT & Holy Roller :spudwave: . Love your greyhounds. I think they are absolutely beautiful dogs.

Just looking for some advice on having one as a pet. Did you adopt yours as adults or pups? How do yours get on with cats?? :spudwhat: I have tried to convince my partner to get one before but he is worried that they will savage the cat. I would ideally like to rescue an older dog from a racing kennel but understand that it may be a lot harder to look after then a puppy.

Tanks very much!

P.S For the pet record, I have a partbred Arab horse, 1 cat (6 lives left), tropical fish, and aviary of budgies.

They will savage the cat (at first) In fact they will chase anything that moves, Basil is 7 so he's calmed down, we had another greyhound, Tiger, I had to shoot him because he was a danger to children etc. Greyhounds as puppies are expensive ($2000+) and once an adult gives you the "please wuv me" eyes you've gotta take him (or her)

btw: Theres a dog day on in Hamilton tomorrow.

Mine was an ex racer. He injured his leg and started getting down gradded. The owners had him schedualed to be put down. I found him the day before when fixing a clients spa. He trained greyhounds in Takanini. He was so thankful to find some one who would take him, my wife thought I was bringing home something the size of a chiuaua(sp). There was a time of settleing down, read heaps on the net about greyhounds.
http://homepages.maxnet.co.nz/gordons/digger/page2.html
A bit about the first few weeks.
We have had no problem with the cats or our rabbits from Digger, only the neighbours dog :angry2:
The Mrs has a love hate relationship with the dog as she is not a dog person cause the kids love him she tries very hard.

The racing kennels will have a good idea which dogs have the better nature, generally greyhounds make very good pets but need to have company as they suffer from seperation anxiety.

Dashunds are great little dogs! They used to be used for feretting cos they're so fiesty! We used to own a wired haired one that we got from a dog refuge place. He'd take on dogs 10 times his size - halrious to watch. He lived to a ripe old age too. :niceone:

lbflynn.jpg Flynn was my fishing buddy, when ever I wanted to go, he was right there at the back of the boat waiting. No one was more excited about fish coming on board than him. He would leap off the back of the boat to swim with dolphins.
He would stalk stingrays and sprats in the shallows. I could even take him floundering and he would go into stealth mode. (if you've ever tried floundering you'll know how quiet you have to be.)
He came to work with me a lot. His behaviour was impeccable. I wish I could take all of the credit, but I think he was just a very special hound.
No matter how tired, grumpy, nasty or indifferent I was when I came home, he would have me smiling in about 20 seconds.
We walked the neighbourhood every single night, like a vigilante patrol, we did get to make a small difference in our hood.
I wish the dog hating beaurocrats and council lawmaking w*nk**s out there could have the chance to see that a dog not on a leash is not necessarily a dog not under control.
One day I will try to love again, if they don't end up making ownership of dogs illegal as well.
I think this quote sums it up well.
"The one absolutely unselfish friend that man can have in this selfish world, the one that never deserts him, that never proves ungrateful or treacherous is his dog. He will kiss the hand that has no food to offer; he will lick the wounds and sores that come in encounter with the roughness of this world. When all other friends desert, he remains." — George G. Vest, 1884

Good story mate - I hate dogs, and that sucks cause it's not really the dogs that I hate,it's the stupid fucking owners that make them like that.I've met a hell of a lot of really nice dos,but I've also come across a hundred times more nasty mistreaded dogs that should eat their owners...slowly.

What a great idea for a thread. After a bit of harassment at the begining, it has quickly turned into the tread it was meant to be. It has shown that many of us have pets and treat them like part of the family.

We have two horses, two dogs and two cats.

Only could find a picture of my horse, Cody. I do eventing and endurance(long distance racing) My other horse Warrior is now 29yrs but still going strong - Our dogs are a English Staffy, Betty and a Mutt, Yabba - both great dogs that love the beach and going with me and the horse in the forest.

Hell, I feel guilty enough as it is - we had a sheep we'd been given as it had a broken leg. It healed and we bred from her last year but she had a bearing (I won't go into details, suffice to say it necessitated a visit from the vet and a lot of "ooh"ing and "yuck"ing) so we couldn't breed from her again. We don't have enough land to separate her from the ram so we asked some friends to take her to the works with their animals. While he was towing their ute out of our paddock with his 4WD, a neighbour mentioned he needed more stock (he doesn't have a ram) so she could have lived a long and happy life with his three ewes... and last week the woman told me Hoppy had been 'done'. As for the nine or 10, we sold eight lambs recently so I wasn't sure how many we had left - Sarge (the ram), Spot, Jenny, Madge, Flopsy, Snowy, Mocha, Milo (ewes) and Buffy. There - nine in total, plus Milly and Odile (the two black swans).

In case you're wondering (Sarge was!), our ram was named Sarge for a reason - we had a black ram and we needed to get rid of him before he started breeding with his daughters so we swapped him for a white ram. He came from Soldiers Road so we wanted something with a military theme so we discussed calling him the General or Sergeant, and then suddenly we thought "Sarge" - and it suits him!

Cue the Parelli rubber jokes.

Within limits yeah. Folks in the paddock opposite trot their horses along sealed surfaces without shoes (barefoot, Strasseur method). Poor things are constantly lame. Nothing "natural" about that IMHO. Watched a couple of Pat's video's myself...didn't understand half of it. Still, a lot of the riders on the video seemed as bad as me. The missus is the real horsey one. I just follow orders (and love it :innocent: ) and fall off a lot.

Here's mine. I picked this bitch up from the pound a while back but she's fuckin useless. She pisses all over the place, steals things that don't belong to her, barks all fuckin day long for no reason, lets undesirables into our back yard and has dog breath that would make a muslin cry. Our neighbourhood is ruined and no one talks to us anymore. She's so fuckin nasty we tried breeding her as a fighting dog but she doesn't like it doggie style and seems to hate cock.

I've tried clubbing her with a spade but the bitch just won't die. Free to a good farm.

isn't the rubber pirelli .. ?? I thought it was spelt differently

my horses are also barefoot .. but like humans wearing shoes all winter & summer going barefoot they need a bit of time to harden up .. but hardly ever lame

I can understand watching the videos .. went to a clinic to watch & could not comprehend how the games on the ground transferred to on their back but they sure do ..

just one thing bout falling off .. do not look at the ground or that is where you end up .. when you ride make sure you look far into the distance .. that will prob improve how you sit on the horse .. (& not fall off)

ok ok will not hijack thread anymore :D

Update, 10 puppies total.

Sad morning, meon3 spent the night with one of the two runts tucked up in her shirt all night, feeding every couple of hours.

Passed away this morning. Second runt died overnight as well. Probably as nature intended. Rest of litter healthy as.

3 red, 4 males, 4 females.

PM me if you are after a quiet Dobermann. (live one ya wally) Cause some one is bound to make a smart comment...

Great to know there are so many animal lovers out there:yes:
heres my critters.

Dyna is a Bulmastif/Ridgeback X. She is a top bitch...I have had her since she was 10weeks old and we can communicate with a look...no words necessary, at nearly 12 years old she has had both knees reconstructed in the last 2 years at 4 Gs a time. Some of my friends gave me a really hard time about it but this dog has given me so much joy and is otherwise in primo physical shape.
Her 2nd knee op was just under a year ago and within 6months she was hunting rabbits again!

Shar is a Rotty/HuntawayX, I rescued her at the age of 18mths, she was a basketcase, she had been beaten so badly she would pee herself if you tried to touch her. Within 2 days of being with me she knew she was onto a good thing, she thinks the sun shines outta my ass and is EXTREMELY protective.
I was never a fan of Rottys before owning Shar...but that opinion has been revised cos she is an amazing dog...SUPER intelligent...yes that will be partly due to the Huntaway in her but her father was a pure-bred Rotty and her mother was 3/4 rotty 1/4 Huntaway so she is predominately Rotty.

I am really lucky to live close to a huge reserve that has massive off-leash areas and the hounds get a 60-90minute run nearly everyday. its soul-food for all concerned:yes:

Jaz is my gorgeous puddytat. She is a domesticated former-wildcat...She also adores me but very rarely shows herself to other people. The really hardcase thing is that she is bestest buddies with the dogs... !!

What did your friends spend their money on - cars, clothes, big screen telly? Useless stuff if you ask me, but if it makes you happy . . .

I'd do the same with my boys if they needed it and it would restore quality of life.

ha ha...since we all seem to be a big bunch of softies... heres a question for ya.

How many of you let your dogs sleep inside?

Mine are both old and the Vet says they have to have warm soft beds (to keep arthritis at bay)...so they sleep on sheepkins on a rug in the lounge ( cos thats where the oil-fin heater is, on all night... ).

Plus I have just invested in a couple of doggy hotties...ya nuke em in the microwave and pop them under their bedding. Tried them out last night and they were still warm this morning. Gave them another nuke and put them in their kennels.

it was 5ºC this morning when I left for work and kicked the pooches out...brrr...

Hey janno!
Good on ya mate...I applaud yr decision to neuter him. I get so sick of people going all bleedin' heart blimmin liberal about animal desexing.
In my opinion if you ain't a registered breeder then there is no excuse NOT to.
There are too many unwanted critters out there, not to mention the poor females of the species who get the life fucked and sucked out of them.
'cuse my french but I have seen too many bitches in sorry states just cos their owners are don't know any better.

And yesterday I saw a sight that turned my stomach.
Just come off the motorway at maunukau and saw a bloke dragging a wee puppy along on a lead.
A: the puppy was too young to be out walking around on a lead
B: everytime the poor thing didn't heel properly it got kicked.

I was in my car and drove up beside the wanker, blasted my horn and gave him an earful of abuse. He actually looked ashamed... ( which was lucky cos he was big and bad looking...)

Good on ya back!!

That poor dog will be tossed out by the time it's a year old, betcha, because it's thick, won't listen, or too shy.
Nothing to do with the trainer's smarts at all, hey.
Though perhaps if someone actually showed him the basics of training a dog he'd get the picture.

Shame you can't neuter some of the owners.

You bad egg. My runt is a house dog, and, as you know, Ms Biff wouldn't dream of allowing me to make Buster (allegedly half Huntaway half German Shepard, although I have my doubts) sleep outside.
