I want one - Class 2 to start with then see how the big toys appeals.. I might get some of the other clarses.
So - who's a good training provider then? Suggestions?

Passrite are generally considered one of the best. They have their own trucks too, a lot of them use 'your' truck.
You do, of course, realise that you'll be unconditionally kicked off the site if you go ahead though, right??

Sorry - got the company wrong. Hey it was years and years ago...
Give this place a try.
They have some really great trainers. And it's not that expensive. They also have courses that you can tailor your attendance to..
I went here when I first got to NZ to get my license converted. As there was a technical hitch with my Aus license.

Would recommend them anytime...The best thing is they offer the Heavy Vehicle Class 2-5 Licence Reduction courses including Accelerated Progression courses for over 25s. Which means you can acquire the license classes, sooner, as long as you complete the training.

Get a job with Stagecoach and make them pay for it all. It's farken expensive.
Then you can come onto KB and complain about yourself!

Careful there, you might find some people here drive trucks for a living:buggerd:
Sorry I can't help you, I could recommend someone in Welly, but that's not much use. If you're considering it as a job, you need to move up from class 2 asap. Class 2 - Heaps of physical work, not much actual driving.
P.S. Try one of your local polytechs, they might be running a course.

Isn't that what QKCHK does for a living? Besiders RiderSkills.

Agree with your view of Passrite. Seen some incredibly dodgy driving in their vehicles.

I second (or third or how ever many from before) regarding pass rite being not worth it. Also don't go with polytechnic. most employers will only use polytechnic people as last ditch.
Best way to get experience is by being a relief driver.
Where are you based friend?
If in Tauranga I would say Driver training (ask for ray).
Pm me if you want any advise or stories regarding trucking. Also willing to teach truck backing. Its a bitch trust me

I got my HT licence when I worked for MAF - my training was driving the farm truck overloaded with hay bales up and down a narrow gravel road on a hill country farm, then transporting truckloads of sheep to and from other MAF farms.
I can't remember if the useless chick that was learning at the same time got her licence - she had problems with the truck and wiped half a load of hay bales off on one corner. Great fun reloading the truck...
When I went for my licence test, the cop goes, "Better check the truck over first....hmmmm....Uh-oh - this is BAD!" The RUC certificate hadn't been renewed and the mileage was summat like 5000km over.
Sent us back to work, and because it was a Goobermint vehicle, let us off the ticket and fine. :o
So, when I rebooked and went to pick up the truck, the unhelpful guy in the gargre goes, "Nuh. Can't have it"
"Why not? It's been booked for weeks!"
"Brakes are fukt."
Eventually, I got him to stop picking his nose or whatever important thing he was doing, and helped him bleed the brakes, and still got to the test in time.
Passed no sweat. :niceone:
Never got around to doing the other classes.

Thank god, you'll find that things are fairly different now, and the gear you get to drive nowadays is in readonable shape and is generally quite nice. Most operators are now wise to the fact that the God Squad doesn't display much tolerance as of late

Join the Territorial Force, Royal New Zealand Logistics Regiment..
Get PAID to do all your vehicle training, licenses (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, P, D, F, I).
Not to mention doing all the other fun stuff. You are required to do only 20 days minimum per year.

Thanks all.
For the record - cheapest I've found is www.prodriver.co.nz (http://www.prodriver.co.nz) at $500 for the license. They are in Chch which is fine with me (airpoints eh? Just love them!)

You'll find they do Dangerous Goods endorsements as well /2 day course/ and have some handy materials they give out with that. /quick reference charts for DG that you'll definitely always need/.
If you can invest in getting at least up to class 4 and all the endorsements, you'll never be without a job.

I did my HT classes (2 and 4) by working as a labourer at a trucking firm for 2 weeks voluntarily- already had my L for class 2 see...
the manager let me sit my test in an Izusu 14 tonner-
passed too-
They gave me an employment contract to sign back at their yard, and gave me a job as a driver.
That was 15 years ago- drove heavy's for 6 years after, work in IT now.
That was years ago but was a good way to get in and get my license-
So, make sure your one of the better ones if ya get into it for a living bro-
