Tune boy vrs power commander

Just had my 1050 dyno'd and though it looks pretty good with an all but straight line all the way to 130 odd HP, with only a bit of a dip where it leans out ! it has shown that it needs to be tweeked a bit in the tuning ! those of ya that can read a chart will see what i mean !

So the question is, can a tune boy let ya tweek things like this or do ya have to download specific tunes and then try it till ya get one that evens things out !
Have to do this before i start playing with air intake and exhaust, as its lean enough at 5500 RPM now, without increasing it !

I have a tuneboy and they are fantastic to play with. You do need to have some pc nowce though. Makes a powercomander look a bit sick really.
You can do lots with them :msn-wink:

There is a small problem that most shops with dynos don't know how to use them so you could end up training them with the software.

The doc was empty when i opened it mate ??

Just so happens that marcus at the bike clinic here in pram is a part time race tech for bikes and v8s in oz AND an IT expert hehe so yeah, if i cant sus it myself i shouldn't have to spend a fortune in labour for a tech to learn it !
What sort of dollars am i looking at for the tune boy and where did ya get your one from man ? Be nice to have it sussed for the april round !

Just had a read through their site and can see why you would need a bit of pc nouce haha but nice to see ya can do custom maps etc !

have a chat to Owl mate, he has a tune boy on his 1050 and says it's sweet

my bird has a PCIII but by what he was saying the Tune boy sounds way more flexible in what you can adjust

True, he does to ! And has the nouse now too ! Sounds like it's what i want, it's just the time frame to suss it out in now !
Want to get the air intake and exhaust opened up but am wary of doing it while it has that spike in the leanness !

tune boy or PCIII is the ideal kit to add when you start arsing around with air flow in and out - mine was done when the stock 4-2 exhaust setup was changed to a 4-1 micron system......lots of grunt all the way through the range

From a tuning point of view Tuneboy is far more versatile and provided you get someone who knows what they are doing, a better job can be achieved. Having said that if you are just going to play with exhaust and aircleaner a power commander would do the job.
If you are going to do it yourself then you need a key and a cable, if you get a shop to do it you should just be paying for a key. If someone buys a key from me I will upload maps for them as part of the key purchase.
The basic difference between the two, Power Commander allows fuel adjustment only, Tuneboy gives access to ignition, compensation tables etc etc, whatever is in there that can be adjusted. I am biased because I prefer to use ecu mapping software when tuning and am not a big fan of piggyback boxes. Just an extra thing to go wrong.

thats a bit of a spike there. Normally something so pronounced would also show up on the hp/tq curve. You might find if you "fix" it you will lose power due to excessive richness. If you could find someone with a hi speed CO meter or a 4/5 gas EGA they will be able to tell you if it actually is a lean spot. I am assuming they used a wideband to get the AFR

The good thing about any british motor vehicle is its very easy to tell the oil level.... if it's leaking it has oil. when it stops leaking there is none left.

If I knew before what I know now, I would've gone directly to Kerry. His tune blitz's the 10+ maps I previously tried and it's tuned to the bike.:yes: Not an off the shelf, there you go, have a happy day type tune.:no:

Cheers for that ! Yeah all the techs i've talked to so far said the same thing re piggy back boxes, and me being a Duh when it comes to mechanics, the less to go wrong at the track the better !
If ya hold a rule against the curve there is a dip which coinsides with it leaning up, so hoping that fixing it wont end up in a HP loss !
At this stage it's still got a stock air box and filter set up, all i've changed is to put a 955 3 into 1 system on it, (Noticed a big jump in feul consumption) so thought it was time to do a base dyno and go from there !
Have a mate who has opened up a couple of trumpy airboxes now (t595) so just need to find a 2nd hand one (or lid) to fuck around with ! That and a visit to Damon at cycleworks, to see what he can do for me at the other end !
Picked me up a New 2nd hand Jardine can fairly cheap, but the bloody thing is that closed up inside lol my Knowledge may be basic, but if ya have 3 x header pipes joining at the collection box then trying to excape out a pipe no bigger than one header pipe, it don't add up (particully once i let more air in) !

Cheers Al might just give the man a call and see what he can do for me re a key ! Or i might even talk to phill at the clinic and see if i can sell him the idea that it's time he had tune boy there, seeing his mechanic is an IT tech as well !
