OK. I've got a Harley Owners Group committee meeting tonight. Get to go for a nice fang on a Buell after work to get there and all.

Just wondering, does anybody have any issues they'd like me to raise?

Post 'em here before 6 pm and I'll make sure they're addressed.

Yeah. Pass a motion that HOGS wave to other bikers.

And another that due to the number of suspension failures, HOG owners need to file a diet plan with the committee.

And ask if anyone's got an old 883 they'd like to donate to a good cause. :shifty:

Yeah. Pass a motion that HOGS wave to other bikers.

I second that motion, albeit with the inclusion of the wording, " Bikes infer anything motorised with two wheels, no just Yank tanks".

Yeah, the fancy chrome head-stud cover I bought is already flaking its chrome off - give H-D quality control a rev up from me and tell 'em I'll be whinging, sheesh, at over $20 each I expected gold ones or at least the chrome to stay glued on.

See how they are going to deal with the proposed 'new' law on exhaust noise WT, I've got no time for straight pipes but you can't beat the noise of a good Harley bark through loud mufflers.

OK you multis and othe twins also sound O.K. too!! (before the WINJAS have a go at me).

C'mon, I own a H-D, I was OBLIGATED to buy such friparies, my hands were tied, all I wanted was the best quality a man can get from Korea!!

Oh, I see, that WAS the best quality I could get from Korea!!

Just ask them to be more sociable to other bikers. Waving and such.

A scooter is not a motorbike in my opinion but thats only cause they look silly and don't sound nice, still call thier riders bikers though.

Cut HD riders some slack dudes. I have noticed a lot of them waving (and waving back) when I'm out on "Roxanne". By the way I have noticed that not all riders of other bikes wave. Should I pick on what bikes they ride? Get over yourselves and open your minds.

Went out to the Parrot and Jigger, grabbed a beer and headed for the meeting. Got a standing ovation from the other 6 members for my wheeli efforts on Sunday and they asked me to tell the KBers that attended thanks for coming and being well behaved.

The only fucktards carving HOG members up on the twisties were other HOGsters.

After the meeting, a group of about 25 bikes took off up to Param for some Fush and Chups, being on an XB12S, I thought it my duty to display some of its natural tendency to mono everywhere. They loved it.

Nice ride, good company, I'm buying a Harley. Fuck it.

Im a little confused, (noob)
but when you say 'wave' do you actually lift your arm and wave it wildly around while looking at another biker?

Or are you refering to the head nod I see/participate in all the time.

Depend on your style - either is good...

waving wildy my be a little over the top though - just a hand raise is fine

WT - Talk to us about Buells please mate. What do they ride like, handling etc. Yeah I know they're basically Hardley's, but apart from that, are they any good?

Sweet - I wasn't sure whether they may have had a different definition to me on what constitutes a safe overtaking manouvre.

Re: Paul's comment about returning the favour - Are you going to ask them along on a Thursday night sometime ?? :2thumbsup

It would certainly be a sight at the Exchange when 8 Sports Bikes and 100 Hogs turn up outside on the footpath.

Untill 2003, Buells were HD 1200 Sportster engines, wrapped in a better handling chassis with 17inch wheels and good brakes. They were allright.

In 2003, Eric Buell unveiled the "XB" series machines, which in my mind, are still the most inovative and well thought out motorcycle available. The design breif was to build a bike with 250 Grand Prix dimensions, using a 998cc Buell built engine. The lump is still based on the Sporty donk, but is alot more efficiant and powerfull.

To maximise the use of all available space, the huge, alloy, beam frame houses a fuell cell. The swingarm contains the engine oil and in true Buell tradition, the muffler is slung beneath the bike for a lower center of gravity and mass centralization.

Really neat features are the pretensioner and idler wheel on the drive belt. You never have to adjustthe belt and therefore can't fuck the wheel alignment up. Belts don't use oil either. To ensure ease of belt changes (they have a 50000km service interval) XBs have a sectional swingarm, unbolt the bracing and the belt can be changed in 1/2 an hour.

Stop me if I'm boring you, more to follow.

I'm concerned about the fact that something from the States might be cool after all. Then again they did introduce mullets to the world. Oh - and line dancing, and we mustn't forget Alucard D.

that may be so - but it still looks fugly! That's my only gripe with the way they look.

And enough badges to totally screw your power/weight ratio. Sorry, weight/power.

OK.

So overnight, Buells international sales jumped 46%. Funny thing is, that traditional Buell riders weren't buying 'em. They're to ar removed from the "Harley" thing. Aprillias, Dukes, Gixxers, Blades, all getting traded on horrible, air cooled, two valve, push rod technology. The only complaint, lack of power.

Chuck a race kit on an XB9R and I believe you've got one of the most neautral handling, easy to ride sports machine on the street. Others disagree and want more poke.

So they took the award winning XB9 and stroked the engine, taking it to 1203cc. You want torque? This is your baby. 179kg dry, 1320mm wheelbase and 110Nm @ 6K. Funnily enough, Ray Charles could wheelie this thing. My only complaint with these stroker motors is the flywheel effect. The change from 1st to 2nd on the back wheel will flip you if your not carefull. Far better to hoist it at 2000rpm (I shit you not!) in second gear, and use the wicked throttle response and wave of torque to control elevation.

I rode an XB12S to Manfeild to watch a track day and riding with my few mates on GSXR750Xs and the likes, the Buell far from disgraced itself. 220kph is all shes got, but it'll get there damn near as quick as a 600 supersports machine. That aint bad for a naked bike.

Being light, short and steep in the steering lends itself to instability normally. Not on the Buell. I've never had a tank slap on one and I ride 'em harder than most. Likewise, I've never broken one and shit I've tried.

Wherever you park it, peolpe flock to the bike. The first point of interest being the 375mm, inside out brake disc with 6 pot calliper. Craig Jones held a world record recently for longest rolling stoppie. 225m on a stock XB9. The only reason he couldn't go further? The 140mph speed at wich he hoisted the rear wheel is as fast as the bike could go.

I've only ever spoken to one person who didn't enjoy the ride experiance. He stated the bike was flighty and unstable. He went out and bought Ray Clees 2002 GSXR1000 race bike with 165hp and promptly got smoked by one skinny, wide eyed, Buell mounted nutter over the Rimitukas. Don't diss my favourite bike arse hole!

Story over but if I can offer a piece of advice, ride one quick, before everyone else sees what the fuss is about.

Feel free to take the piss without mercy.

good write up on the Buell.. I wouldn't mind a ride on one myself. They look pretty awesome, and sound a bit of alright too! Just not quite the sports bike that I'm into at the moment. If I could afford a second bike, it'd be right up the list.. May be in a few years when I settle down a bit, who knows..

As for the HOGs... will they ever wave, and would it be a NZ wide thing??

doh! I missed the thread starting but I did have a question for the HD boys Whitey:

Q: Is it true that the main reason harleys only come out on the weekend is that it takes another 6 days after a ride to retighten all the loosened bolts and get replacement parts for things that have fallen off?

(not ENTIRELY a piss take - based on a true storey!)
