Hello, I been riding for a couple months. Well, I been out four times and sprained my wrist..wups - out of action in cast for a few weeks, but anyway, cause of crash may be related to poor braking equipment.
My discspads are almost bare, so I will replace them, however my disc rotors also feel really rough and have thinned in a mill or two from the outside edge.
Does that mean its time for new ones?
If so, how much, what and who do you recommend?
Honda 2002 CR125 BTW.
Cheers.

heya mate. out of it that no one's posted here so i'll say this and get your thread to the top so that some of the KB geniuses may notice and give you some good info.
I believe on my rotors (wavy KTM) 1mm is the wear limit and if they're rough surfaced (not smooth/flat) this reduces contact area therefore braking power. I'd say replace em... they've probably not been changed since new and 7 years is a good run lol. must do pads aswell obviousely

Cheers fullas. Yeah, pads are almost gone. It was while looking at them that I noticed my discs are stuffed - well, kinda stuffed. How stuffed they are depends on the price of new ones :)

My front rotor did exactly the same - was looking at a new one for $169 - however I called into supa-x cycles in Hamilton one day and bugger me I found one in a bucket of mixed rotors that would fit my kdx! He charged me $25.
I have awesome front brakes now. Pads cost more than the rotor!

This guy on tardme is selling $3 brake pads. Is there something wrong with them? Anyone know?

RRP on new Metal Gear rotors with pads is $172.62, like everything thats imported they have recently gone up with the weakness of the dollar.
The ones I've used have been exactly as oem and the pads have lasted way better than expected.

Ha. Well put. Need to include into the equation how stuffed your wrist is though!
I replaced mine with MetalGear ones. Not to contradict Danger as mine weren't strictly OEM replacement, but was surprised to find they were 1mm thicker than OEM. Will last much longer but they were also noticeably heavier. Should also mention my MetalGears were not wavy type so more weight because of that as well, but I didn't like the way the OEM wavy discs had worn very unevenly (thin at wave tips). I'm not a big fan of extra weight anywhere especially unsprung weight, but a real big fan of brakes that work properly.
I'd read somewhere not a good idea to let pads get too worn down. Transfers a lot of extra heat into your brake fuid.
Those pads sound very sus but might make a better emergency backup in your toolbox than knackered pads?
