My FXR has an issue with its speedo and dash which I think are probably connected... Problem started today.

Everytime my front tyre hits a bump on the road my speedo will read anything from between 170-230kph!! Obviously this is wrong!
Even when I am just rolling the bike forward (while on) my speedo can read up to 50kph
My dash will suddenly stop displaying anything such as indicated gear, speedo and rev counter.

So I am pretty sure that it is a loose connection somewhere and logic would tell me that it may possibly be on the front wheel. I have had a quick look but cannot see anything untoward, however this is most likely because I dont know what I am looking for. Can anyone help me out with what I should be looking for or checking etc?

Is the speedo cable driven? If so, perhaps the cable is near to breaking.
The other issues suggest a bad electrical connection. The jolt of hitting a bump is breaking a circuit somewhere.

There is one big plug in the back of the instruments, it has a wee locking clip that you press in, then while its held in you can pull the plug out. the plug is about 30mm x 20mm and has about 20 wires. Pull it out and look for corrosion (usually green fungus type of stuff) give it a squirt with some contact cleaner and plug in and unplug a few times then try it out.

Is the battery fitted to the bike any good, does it start the bike or do you need to kickstart it?

the front wheel has an elecrtonic sensor on the Left side they dont normally give any trouble except breaking in crashes, I dont really think that is where the problem is.

See if somebody will lend you a speedo to try, that way you will know if the problem is in the speedo or the bikes electrics, if you cant borrow one PM me and I will send you one to try
