Hey,

I am thinking of purchasing this track bike and doing some work on it to get it road legal. I realize I have to get it tested for road legality, get plates, lights a speedo etc. My main concern at this point is that some of the modications he had made to the engine might be illegal on the road. This is the information the seller posted on it, can you guys see anything that would really throw a spanner in the works?

1992 RGV250 VJ22A trackbike.
NEW PHOTOS ADDED SHOWING SPARE PARTS: JETS, SPROCKETS, GASKETS ETC

Machined heads with TZ250 o-ring (between cylinder and head) and 1.2mm base gasket (between crank and cylinder) modification. This is a typical modification for these engines to increase compression and get more power while running on 98 octane fuel. A full description of the modification can be found at http://www.rgv250.co.uk/enginetuning.htm.

Naturally, this bike has the UN-RESTRICTED SAPC box and 34mm carbs.

Engine has also been modified to run on premix, so oil pump and lines have been removed. All that is required is to fill 10 liters of 98 and mix a 33:1 oil ratio into the tank.

Powervalves and ports have been "matched" with the cylinders. The two-stage power-valves are of the standard type, but in perfect working condition (and inspected/drained regularly).

I have recently replaced the rings/gaskets/plugs and checked the top end. The only use the bike has had since, has been to set up the jetting. Also added new braided front brake lines.

Both exhaust chambers were recently de-carboned. While light-wight alloy silencers replace the heavy standard ones.

This bike has some serious power and would benefit with the addition of a steering damper as the front end can get very light.

have a chat to VTNZ people, print it off and show them the mods. Got pictures or a link?

If you need to ask this question then a 2stroke 250 isn't for you.

That's been fairly heavily modified, and most bike shops won't have a clue where to start with it.

If you wana learn about building race 2stroke engines get it, if you wanna ride, forget it.

The power in these little bikes can be awsome - however Suzuki made them to give a balance of power and reliability, unfortunatley if you chase one it is generally at the expense of the other. It may be quick but likley to be heavy on maintenance.

My advise if you want one of these is to got for one that has not been molested, you can do a few simple mods to improve the performance without the full "balls out" race mods.

Honestly dude, it's a race bike that happened to be road legal. The riding position is cramped, off power it feels lifeless and smokes and it'll cost as much in parts and oil as it does in fuel.

If that's your kinda bike buy it and get intimate with the guys at RGV250.co.uk

If not, look for a 4cylinder 250, or if your not on your learners a 400 race rep (FZR400, GSXR400, CBR400RR, ZXR400).

Id steer clear of it, if you want it for the road.....you,ll kill it.But if its for the track then yup ,buy it.
Thats just my opinion though.
