:gob:Hi peeps, i have recently applied for an exemption to the 250cc rule as i am finding it difficult to find a 250 that i can ride comfortably due to my height. (193cm) I am eligable to sit my full licence on 16th april 09 and would like to get experience (legally as not to get any extensions)before winter hits.
Long story short my application was declined due to the fact that i could have sat my full on the 16th jan had i sat a defensive driving or street talk course.
I am failing to make a connection between being to tall to ride a 250cc comfortably therefor safely imop and completing a course that is aimed at 4 wheeled vehicles.
So i ask you in your opinion how tall is to tall, and how have other people gone about this?
Should i try again??

You don't need an exemption. You can use your defensive driving course to get time off your restricted period. So you can actually sit your full now, and legally ride a bigger bike.
Just go and book it!

I'm taller than you, and did my time on a 250.
Man up, and just sit your full when it's time. You don't need an exemption.

Ummm i havent actually done a course sorry and fail to see how completing a course is going to make me shorter lmao:rockon: or more comfortable on a small bike.
I realise that laws are laws and they are in place to keep us and others around us safe but there have to be exceptions to the rule.. we arent all the same size.
What does a defensive driving course aimed at 4 wheel vehicles have to do with being too tall to feel comfortable/safe on a small bike??
In my opinion comfort and safety go hand in hand on 2 wheels.

I'm 188cm tall, so you're not THAT tall. I learnt on a vespa 150, then had a couple of GF250's then a ZXR250A.

They are saying that if you took the same initiative as you did to fill out the request for exemption form and booked yourself in for a defensive driving course you'd be able to have your full licence anyway.
Would you do extra work for me, when you know that in a few months time you'll be able to extract more of my own money to solve the problem anyway?

I am up around 196 ish cm. I also ride a 400.... that is exacly the same size as the 250. I went up an engine size for the brakes and shocks. (k so a little power to)

Interesting how many "big people" find that extra 350cc seems somehow to spread out from the engine to the frame.
Some comparative specs :

. Suzuki DRZ250 GSF600
Length 2150 2085
Width 880 745
Height 1205 1205
Wheelbase 1455 1430
Seat height 890 805

So, in all dimensions, the 250 is *bigger* than the Bandit. Your problem is solved, there is a 250 that is big enough for you. Bigger in fact than the Bandit. Isn't that good news.
Perhaps LTNZ are capable of noticing this also.
And of observing that you have been riding for at least a year. Being law abiding people they will assume that you are also, and figure that if you've managed OK for a year plus you man probably manage for a bit longer until you get your full. Of course, you could tell them that you've been ignoring the law, and would now like them to validate that .

6 ft 4 and i squeeze myself onto a rg150 fine enough
And i think the defensive course they are suggesting you take is something along these lines http://www.riderskills.co.nz/default.asp?pageref=streettalk&rightbar=readyforsummer, most definately not aimed at 4 wheels?

2m tall and on a GN250, bit sluggish with my weight but fine, comfortable enough with my height. I don't ride particularly long distances tho (partly cos of the sluggishness), 2 hours max. Had a vespa et4 for 18months before that which had more balls than my ginny (also had an ax100 for 9 months bu that was in cooks so doesn't really count)

It may not have occurred to you, but if you did a defensive driving course and then sat your full M/cycle license - you could buy any bike you thought suitable. If you compare this to getting an exemption which would only be approved for certain bikes then the advantages to going straight to a full license should be obvious.

The defensive driving course is all about having the proper attitude, and understanding how to identify problems as they arise. It's nothing to do with "cars". Yes all the examples are with cars (no motorcycles mentioned at all) but if you sit around during the course and fume about it you will learn nothing.
I did the DDC and hated it. It was borderline whether it was worth the hassle. (personally)

I just rode my big block with a learners and kept my nose clean. Sat the DD course (piece of piss, met some cool young folk, great for a perve too) and got my full in no time. Rode without a license for thirty years! Getting it was easy, shoulda done it years ago but back then the fine was 25 bucks or something, so it wasn't an issue.
Just do it.
