Lani, what could be a good idea is to post a bank account for KBers who can't participate in the ride to make a contribution to what is an outstandingly great initiative.

Hi there, I just found this thread and well done for your efforts.
I met Scott and your mum and you and the rest of your extended family when we were doing the inaugural Sth Island passes ride a couple of years ago. We all had dinner together in Franz Joseph (the night the Honda Riders group walked out without paying!!!) and we had met up earlier on our trip (Picton I think)
I admired what you were doing then as a big family adventure and was really upset when I heard of Scott's death.
Great that you are remembering him in this way and I hope the event is successful
kind regards

Hi Lani,
I live 2km from Coromandel town centre down on the harbour. I'll be home all week end (decorating sadly). I have a 4x4 and a trailer and if anyone should suffer the misfortune of a breakdown, I'd be happy to turn out and recover to Coromandel. Home number is 07 866 8311.
All the very best for the ride.

Thanks for your support everyone :) The family and I are off to the Coromandel in the next 10 minutes...!
Don't forget, if you want to support the ride, but can't make it on the day, you can donate to the cause doing the following...
Deposit money into account 02-0688-0089460-083, and put a reference in as Zukin. Then send me a PM or email stating you deoposited money with your postal address. The Westpac Rescue Helicopter crew will then send you a letter thanking you for your contribution.

Yesterday was quite a moving day for me, and obviously for Scott's family also.
The ride from Hamilton to Paeroa was blanketed in Hauraki plains fog, and only lifted between there and Thames.
From Thames nth, up the Pohutokawa lined firth road, sea mist covered the area, and gentlely enveloped the road and hills right through to Te Kouma, and cleared at Coro town.
The ride through to the Colville store is one of the nth islands iconic back country trips, and at the store I caught up with NannaMac and family members.
Small groups made the short drive over the hill to the bridge that tragically claimed Scott.
The farmer, (John) who was first on the scene popped down to reflect on that morning with us, and helped by just being there. Nice to know Scotty had such a grounded bloke with him.
The ride home was a mixture of emotions and moments of Scott memories.
Darkness fell as I left Paeroa again, and heavy fog right back to my home gate kept me on my toes. (I think Scott would have have wry smile on his dial, as it those kind of rides that do harden you up.
Rest easy buddy, knowing you are still riding with many of us.

Nicky and I are pleased that we went. I hadn't realised just how much of himself that Scott gave to his community.
On the way home down the western side of the peninsula, we crested the hill just where it reaches the coast again to see the whole Firth of Thames laid out below us and blanketed with fog, as far as we could see, both to the north and south. Looked like a cotton wool blanket with the Hunuas forming the opposite side. It was quite spectacular and put the finishing touch on a very worthwhile day.
Well done Lani!

Second Anniversary.
This weekend is the second anniversary of Scotty's tragic accident on "that bridge", just north of Colville store.
I'm planning on pootling up there to help keep this crazy ol biking life we live in perspective. This isn't a holla out for a group ride, just my way of keeping his memory alive.
Next time you hit the starter to go for a ride, say hi to scotty as you pass your front gate. He will watch out for you, I'm certain of that.
Peace.
