came in from the southern motorway the other day 3 accidents and the motorway was screwed for ages. what do you do if ya need to go for a piss?
7 am is not early enough anymore. rush hours or hours?
from 6.30am till 10 am and sometimes all day till 7.30pm
what do you have to do. new motorways? how long will they last? 10 lanes whats that gonna do. keep riding bikes i say. how can motor bikes get that bus lane on the side of the motorways? do we need to lobby for it or something?

This week has been a paradigm shift in my reality - every day this week I am 20mins later to arrive at work...there must some roadworks or police presence somewhere else to move them onto the NW,or maybe everyone is on early shift this week?

And then at work...it was like a light switch.Last week we were run off our feet, turning work away as we were just so busy.On monday there was NOTHING! Tues same again, one of my guys went home at lunchtime and the other I have painting over the graffiti.Today we have enough work to run over to tomorrow and there is work booked in too.Got the Frosty Van here today - no hurry he says....I hate it when they say that, cause then I don't hurry at all at all.

Hah! Wait until your population grows, as projected, by another 500,000-odd by 2012.

Maybe the Government should make the whole place into a great big parking lot and people could live in their cars. There could be a whole new drive-through growth industry supplying excessively milky "lattes", in-car hair gel application, breast implants and botox. And for the women...

f'rinstance... trying to get from 20ks outta Melbourne to the city could take about 3 hours....
trying to get from one side to the other in the morning or afternoon could take you about 5 hours... not all the time, but it happens

at least you got 2 lanes.... try getting outta welly to raumati (48ks) on a friday... :brick: 1 friggin lane from porrirua!

St Kilda to the airport in 20 mins at 6.30AM. Same at 5.00PM Try that in Auck.
PS There's a mil in Auck now.
PPS Single laning is the latest answer to the road toll, if you can only do 10 km/h you won't die.

i used to be stopped at drury, then again at papakura, then again at manurewa, for a 7am start at auckland airport. the tail proper started at manukau at that time of the morning. there are a LOT of people commuting from south of the bombays - traffic would be solid at 80-90k all the way up the southern motorway from bombay to drury about 0630am

Don't know the street name, it was multi-lane motorway right into the city centre. I was referring to SH1 at Mercer in particular, really safe now at 50 km/h.

Oh dear,I'm going to be doing that one soon marty - I've been going south at night for the last year or more often and the traffic is light, the only holdup is the Rosscommon rd/Wiri station rd lights, and that seems a random event - but I haven't come north for a morning start yet...

marty
4th March 2005, 09:30
i used to take an hour from cambridge to mercer, then 30 mins to the airport from there. it's not worth turning off at manurewa and going clevedon/roscommon - it's just too busy. likewise, don't go puhinui - too many lights, it's 50k, and packed. just stay in the *fast* lane, the stopping is only for a bit until the drury/papakura/manurewa traffic has merged, and if you're in the LH lane, you'll have to make room, which sends you backwards.

marty
4th March 2005, 09:33
on the flip side, i could do airport-mercer in 20 mins at 0400am, then 50 mins home from mercer. not atm though, with all the roadworks thru te kauwhata.

I did West Hamilton to Whenuapai in 55 minutes on an XS1100 once in the early morning. The road is heaps better now but you'd be lucky nowadays to be that quick, too much traffic. Slept in and had to get to work. Luckily I didn't have to test that excuse. Full throttle everywhere, best start to the day you could get.

Girlfriend lived up riverhead Rd for a bit as well, also not a bad way to start the day, and finish it.
