A rare motorcycle stolen from Inglewood, Taranaki, will be hard for thieves to shift as there were only two in the country, police said.
The $60,000 Aprilia was taken while it was at a specialist mechanic's garage early Tuesday morning, the Taranaki Daily News reported.
Constable Darren Hayes said any prospective buyers would likely recognise the bike, which was one of only 150 ever made.
He said the mechanic was spreading the word amongst bikers to keep an eye out.
The bike's Martinborough-based owner said each example was allocated a factory number - his being 28.
He had owned the bike since new, having brought it over from Britain following its release in 2000.
"It's left a large hole in the garage. It's very annoying to know it's something you use and enjoy and to someone else it might mean very little. It could be use

Stolen to order maybe? Why else would you steal something so different or recognisable?

Stupidity and greed?
It may have been a case of not knowing what they took. It's like when our house got broken into and the idiots tried taking my white RSVR (I know of one other white one in NZ) yet Cajun's 600 was sitting right beside it. Now, which one would be easier to dispose of as parts?

Well, chances are they're too dumb to read anyway. Maybe not all is lost yet.
But otherwise Quasi, that was exactly my thought as well. If they can't shift it, they'll probably just rape it...

I'm hoping they see the error of their ways, park it outside a copshop and renounce crime forever ... but I'm taking side-bets on alternate outcomes

Soon he will get a call from the kidnapper, and as long as he follows the instructions, pay's the $$'s, he will have her back. But the police will not be involved.
