Good day all.

In recent weeks I've had a few people looking to have some help with basic set up and adjustment of their road bike suspension. The poeple that have been around have been happy with the results and better understanding gained. So I'll throw an offer out to anyone else who might want a hand.

First, the disclaimer. I am NOT, nor do I claim to be, a Robert Taylor or Shaun Harris. I lack the tooling and more importantly, the expertise and experience these gentlemen can offer. For that reason I'm not even going to entertain the thought of changing springs, re-valving or any other internal adjustment on your bikes suspension.

What I can halp with, is setting up the springy bits within the scope of whatever's fitted, make external adjustments and generally help you have a better understanding of what adjustments do what, and how to relate what you're feeling to what you need to change.

At the very least, setting the rider sag on a bike is a three person job anyway.

So if you're in the South Auckland area and want a hand, flick me a PM. Please don't just turn up at my place unannounced though, I'll sic the dog on ya :)

Edit: Someone just pmed me asking "How much?" I should point out that while my time is far from worthless, I'm not charging for helping fellow bikers out with the knowledge (albeit small amount) I can share.

LOL. That's cause I'm not racing anymore mate. Best way to keep a bike in good nick, is not let me race it :)

That was different. I simply wore out the bits that hit the ground first. Evidently, on a V-Rod, these happen to be the most expensive parts.

Oh well, shit happens :)

I can back that up with set up manuals that are not intimidating in length and content such as ''War and Peace'' These can be transmitted electronically on receipt of a regular e-mail address. E-mail your request for same to robert@crownkiwi.co.nz Jimmy has a sharp mind so he can interpret and optimise to good effect.

Thanks Jimmy,

Left your place today and "accidently" took the southbound on-ramp instead of the north. In short Dave and I did about 200km on the way home via Kiaua.

Bike is subtly better - can't put my finger on exactly why its better but I'm convinced it is.

Thanks for your help today.

Cheers
Shane

Hi Jimmy,

I would just like to add my thanks to Shane's, what you told us made a lot of sense and gave me a greater understanding of how the suspension works.

Found the Z’d to be a bit more bouncy but it did seem to handle well and I had more comfort, I may look at just doing a small adjustment, however before that I will adjust the rear shock as you said and take it from there.

Had a good trip back, had no idea where the heck we where but was fun.

Tnx again for the help and lesson.

Cheers Dave

Hi guys,

Thanks for the kind words, it wass a pleasure to work on your bikes.

Shane I'll flick you that email tonight as promised and include a couple more things to try that will possibly make further progress. To be honest though, yours was probably the best bike yet through the "Dalton" garage. Not really a hell of alot to do there.

Dave, if you need a hand in making your bike a whole lot better, don't hesitate to give me a yell.

Cheers again

Jimmy

It's a possibility mate. Thing is, with the LG team ramping up for the winter series, and a couple of new bikes to help set up I'm probably going to be a busy little beaver.

Let me know when you're thinking of and we'll talk bro.
