I said if something good happens I was going to let everyone know about it lol. It was like pulling teeth, getting blood out of a stone to get there but I'm 98% sure my travel will now go ahead.

Three people let me down re the apartment. Finally this afternoon I let it to a Scottish lad who has a 6 month visa, a job and cash up front for bond and rent in advance. He appears to have a few working braincells.

My girlfriend is paying for my return fare to Nelson and back - hopefully she has booked me on the 8am ferry on Wednesday. I will stay about 2 weeks there - spend time with my Mum, who's in a home for the permanently confused - yesterday I thought I would be joining her for good.

I had to rehome my cat (Babe) - temporarily. She will be living in the Hawkes Bay - she is in Col's hands right now on her way there. Well I didn't realise how attached I was to my cat - I got home and it was so strange not to see her on her pillow. I guess we have been constant companions since I have not worked for nearly a year.

I'm semi packed - got the tent, airbed and good sleeping bag - but have had to add a few more thermals. I spoke to my brother yesterday and he was in Westport - told me snow had fallen to 600 metres. Gulp.

I guess it has turned out better that I do the South Island first - I have to be back in Wellington on 1 May for another MRI scan and after that I will tour the North Island - might be still warm lol.

I have my Great Escapes motorbike guide book - I know its in a safe place somewhere lol - I was recently reading it. Geography, reading maps, sense of direction are not my strong points - however thank god for cellphones lol. I am also taking my laptop to keep in touch with KB lol.

I still have lots to do before I go away - but at least I know I am going. So all in all it has been a good Friday 13th.
