Front and rear bike stands

Hey,

Unfortunately i have to leave my bike next week for a month and a half, and then later on in the year for 7 months!!!!!!!

So i was thinking i may as well get some stands to help preserve the suspension and wheels!

Can anyone recommend a stand? is a front one necessary? or can i get away with just a rear one?

Also, is there anything else i need to do other that disconnect the battery when storing a bike?

You dont really need stands. Park the bike on a piece of old carpet to keep the tyres off the cold concrete. As for the battery its going to go flat weather it conected or not. If you have some body you trust with the keys then get them to start the bike once every 2 weeks and that should be fine.

The weight of the bike does not alter either on a stand or on its wheels. So it wont affect the suspention. The only differance is the flat spotting effect caused by the bike not moving during the park up time.

Sure take the terminal off the battery but its not crutial for such a short time really.

As Driftn says , put something under the wheels to stop moisture / cold attacking the rubber if you need.

Make sure the fuel is turned of and then go away and enjoy your time away.
Drape a cloth over the bike to keep dust and crap settling on it.

Dave. I must warn you. ZX10s left sitting for that length of time without being ridden have been known to spotaneously combust. As it's a well documented, pre existing condition, your insurance company will laugh at you.

I seriously recomend you leave the bike and keys in my garage while you're away and I'll look after it proper like.

IMHO you are better off leaving the battery in and connecting it to a trickel charger. Rear stands are 100 odd bucks from a bike shop and worth it imho.

When puting it up on stands think about if the bike needs to be moved in that time, will you be there to do it, if not who will, can they (safly) get it off the stand? Also is it safe? IE a ground anker may be a good idea....

Ok, cheers for that, so its not so important for a couple of weeks, but for 7 months would you recommend stands for front and rear wheels due to falt spots occuring? either that or get new wheels when i get back.

get a battery tender, front and rear stands and drain the tank.
chuck a cover over it too, keeps the dust and crud off it...
We do a very nice set of stands for $399 or about $320 if you want to lift under the fork legs.
