When you come to Auckland Take Care, auckland drivers are the worst i have ever come across.
If you indicate they will speed up to fill the gap
they lane change 50 times a second, with no indicators
bikes do not exsist
if they do somthing wrong and you say anything the first thing they want to do is fight you

DO NOT DRIVE IN AUCKLAND

Well... some of us ride in Auckland and we seem to survive ok.

Um most of the time in auckland people are polite to me. But i'm of the thinking what goes around comes around and the few times i've had people be rude I have probably deserved it.

Nope, I was reading that there is a town in India run by a local cult which teaches that all destinies are pre-determined, even the time of death. So it leads to some interesting road rules based around whether its your turn to die or not.

You could be forgiven for thinking maybe there is a branch in Auckland?

I find Auckland drivers are very agressive.

Also Auckland/Kiwi drivers seem to fail to grasp the concept of merging

"Oh a gap in front of me....wait! That cunt is trying to get in there in front of me! He can't do that!"

"I'll do 70kph on the state highway, oh look a passing lane....HEY! HEY! he's passing me, I better gun it so he can't get in front of me, my fucking honour is at risk!"

Taipei is huge fun. I spent two weeks there and still don't understand how I never saw a bus vs scooter incident. The buses just drive where they want, and the scooters are everywhere...

actually is subconcious driving, i.e., the driver has no idea what hes doing.

When this is the case, the narrower the road the less safe the driver "feels" (in his sub concious) and slows down, when the road widens out (i.e., a passing lane) he feels safer and will speed up again.

but you being you, you wont care for the actual reason as long as you can shout and holler about it. Oh and wave your arms in the air loudly.

Oh so bloody true!!! I was shocked and stunned I tell you!!!

I have been in TGA almost a year now, and after living and doing a 1hr each way communt from Norf Shore to city, believe me Auckland drivers are exceptional road users compared to the TGA terrors!!

I actually found this post quite amusing.

I suspect the original poster is talking about the attitude of Auckland drivers. To generalise, they (we) tend to be rude, aggressive and think they are better drivers (riders) than anyone else. This gives them the right to heckle and bully other road-users. Right on cue, along comes firefighter to demonstrate exactly what the problem is!

I can just imagine firefighter heading down the road yelling "RETARD!" at people who aren't up to his exceptionally high standard of skill, and making :tugger: gestures at them. Lovely demonstration of the OP's point.

Driven in UK, USA, Europe, Aussie and Kenya and can say that the general standard of driving in Auckland is shall we say not good....however, you drive to the conditions and get few surprise although red light jumping seems to be a new pastime here at mo...saw a taxi follow a bus through a red light as mine were green and he was on a school run with a kid in the front seat and just gave me the finger..nice

Actually......I know better than to do that.... soooooo no it's not any kind of demonstration to prove his point at all.......! <_<
I know better than to expect rediculously good driving, part and parcel with the occupation....and I don't get off on yelling at people or bullying them on my outings....again I do get a little grumpy when something stupid happens, but I would'nt chase someone down the road....(when the hell have I done any of this?)

I personally have driven in several countries around the world, have seen some absolute attrocious acts of lunacy.....and by no means consider myself to be mr AA road testers perfect example.....!

My reply to this post, was purely in response to the naiivity of the op's statements, whereas he blatantly decides to accuse me, of being one of the worlds worst drivers? How the fuck does he know what I drive like? lol.....I would'nt even consider "aucklanders" to be the worst in the country, never mind the world.....a bit of an overstatement to say the least.....

hmmm, your now comparing the CBD instead of just the City in general, which is not really fair, Auck CBD is no worse in my experience to overseas CBDs in regards to general traffic......

Plus there are a lot of Pacific Islander drivers who have attained their licence from overseas....

Then there is the whole being lost thing, lets face it, any busy road when your lost or unsure of where your going, your going to think every fuckers a maniac, what you forget is that these maniacs have a place to be, know the area, and are just trying to get where they're going, in highly congested conditions.

There is a difference between lunacy and bad driving...I mean you could argue that driving in heavy London Traffic is lunacy but because everyone drives to get around London it works and people still display a level of courtesy...but a Kiwi in London traffic may think the opposite and think this is lunacy.

Problem with driver's here is that they have a bad attitude behind the wheel and think that indicating means they have the right to change lanes regardless...they tend to glance as they approach an intersection at 50k and buggger you if you happen to be there and they cannot stop in time...

I come from the middle east, and over there, the white lines on the road are pretty much treated as just decoration. It's alot crazier there than it is here. However, i do think that auckland drivers struggle with the 'give way' rule and the concept of sharing the road seems to be something new to them. My mate (roadblock) was at a giveway sign the other day and got hit from the back. Cops reckon it was at about 60k from the distance he got thrown plus the injury to his bike and himself. After a day in hospital, he's lucky to hav walked away from it, unfortunatly the bike isn't looking too good. There's no way that guy would of been able to even stop at that intersection, so maybe he saved others from a major crash. All i can say is, watch ur back, there's always one out there.

I don't remember anyone saying they want their license more easily. Cheaper? Perhaps. I've seen plenty say they want it faster, which makes no difference really - they're on the road already - what stage of the GDL system they're at makes no difference to whether they're a menace or not.

Certain ones talk about going to a certain island where scoot licence requirements are not so tough.

I think you'll find they're mostly already road users, so it's not exactly going to make any difference whether they're going to be any better or worse on the road. The only thing that's going to do that is being ticketed for failing to obey the road rules that really matter, like indicating and giving way instead of what we currently have which is just hammering exceeding an arbitrary speed limit. At the moment drivers can get away with breaking damn near every rule, all day, every day, except exceeding the speed limit and never be challenged about their standard of driving. Pretty sad state of affairs really considering that failing to give way can kill someone much easier than going 111km/h in a 100km/h zone.

But people who bitch about how Auckland / New Zealand drivers are the worse in the word obviously haven't traveled much and are writing from a position of ignorance.

Even at its worse - Auckland driving is better than the driving in a lot of other counties.

Well, I dunno about the worst drivers in the world, but Auckland has nowhere near the traffic problems compared to other places.

If you think the Auckland morning/evening commuter gridlock is bad, get a load of downtown Los Angeles. Bumper to bumper, on a 6 lane freeway, for about 60 miles, at 4:30 in the morning.

NZ road users in general are terrible - motorcyclists included.

Far too many people fail to learn the difference between assertive driving/riding and aggresive driving/riding.
