Does anyone know if adding a high flow air filter will adversely affect a bike running the run in period (200 kms)?

As long as you don't thrash I'd say it'll be fine.

For myself, I wouldn't mod anything during the run-in period, unless it was well proven.

Check with shop where you bought it, might void your warranty.

What are you hoping to achieve by fitting a K&N? You'll most likely adversely affect the performance of the bike unless you combine it with other mods such as a power commander and free flow exhaust. And to get those running right you really need dyno time.
Want your brand new bike being thrashed to redline on a dyno?

A K&N will allow your bike to run in quicker.
It'll also make it wear out faster....but it's all about performance eh?

A K&N will allow your bike to run in quicker. At first glance, yes. I ran my bike with the airbox off and it went like a bag of arseholes - wouldnt rev past 6k. Constant depression carb does not like no airbox!

Does a K&N really flow that much more than a stock filter in a modern 600/thou?

Mainly in the mind of the owner...

Went to Street and Sport in Chch for a replacement filter for my Daytona and they supplied me with a K&N and not the std paper one...

That's what I thought. I thought the point was that they are cleanable to save cost (and not clog over time) rather than better overall flow.

If you don't know the answer to a question please don't guess. I can do without arse muncherish assumptions. FYI I am transferring salvageable parts from the old damaged bike to my new one (same specs etc).
Given that the K and N was weeks old and will last forever I thought it made financial sense. And since I will be adding pipes and tune after run in, again, I figured it worthwhile...but hey this is Kiwibiker - I'll have to wade through the ridiculous assertions and salvage what I can (excuse the pun). Didn't thrash the old one on a dyno either so I fail to see the need for that also but thanks for your input.
I figure it's not an issue now that I think about it - run in is more about bedding mechanical components etc

Laugh out loud, kiwibiker is good for heated debate. My girlfriend has just run in her 09 CBR (1000km) and honda is fitting a k&n filter and micron full exhaust system in the next few weeks. They say it doesent effect the warranty and could have been done the day she bought it with 0kms. A k&n has higher filtration qualities and higher flow, and is washable so id put it on without worry mate, honda would.

Cockwallets.
The K&N will destroy your engine. Are you not sane?!? Lame Triumphs can't handle that kind of power without increasing the drippage in the "floor oil storage system".

I've looked into this further and I think you'll find this only applies to white ones

Yours is only Black because you don't clean it. Unlike mine, which is always impeccable.
Everyone knows that Black is more slimming. What you trying to hide fat boy?
