Well that was an absolute blast!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Weekend started Saturday with the intention to do some serious testing with the new pipe and front master cylinder fitted. Master cylinder passed the test quickly. Task one complete.
Next the new pipe; with the carby still in standard trim it wasn’t performing bad but could be better. SO I called over Sideways Sam that had spent a bit of time inside the FXR carb just to make sure I was doing it right. He also had some jets lying around so was a handy person to know (this infact turned out to be an issue of sabotage as I found out). So raised the needle two notches put a new main jet in (which was close to the one in Zack’s bike, yea right) and out I go, (well if 2kph at full throttle is going). In I come strip the carb down again, standard jet goes in, better but not quite, so apart the carb comes again and drop the needle back down one. Nailed it.
It was after this that I thought going relatively fast into the sweeper on slicks, on a wet track, was a good idea. A lot of mud, and a broken brake leaver later I changed my mind. Anyway all fixed and all good. Time to go home.
Sunday rolls around, I am at the track nice an early. Weather is good and looks like it will only get better. I decide not to do too much practise as I really did enough riding the day before. Do a few laps just to make sure it all good.
I check the grid positions and am stoked to see that I am still in B grade, sweet dodged another bullet
First prelim race rolls round. I get a great start and am sitting third. I stick on seconds rear wheel for the race looking for a way past as he is looking for a past the leader. It all turned to shit for me when we caught up to some lapped traffic. Second went on the inside, I went to the outside and ran out of track and decide the oval exit road is a better option than binning the bike after all it is only a prelim race. Not sure where I finished.
Second prelim. No a bad start after a bit of pushing and shoving ended up in second after the end of the first lap but knew I had a bike or two on my arse. A great battle ensued with me getting a glance at the following wheel and the leader getting a good look at mine on occasion. Couldn’t fins a way past and when the final lap flag came out it was really all on. Tried to go round the outside at the final turn, didn’t quite work and gave third the better drive. With both became real wide with elbows flying. Little did we know that fourth was the real winner beating us both to the line.
Right decided I need more corner drive (as did those watching) and I was convinced in very short order it was time to bust out the new sprocket (-2 tooth) I didn’t get a chance to try the day before. And then the first points race.
Point’s race one, after some practise in the warm up I was convinced I had done the right thing sprocket wise, even if the gear shifter wasn’t in the right place. Got a good start and was second after the fist turn. Started plotting a plan on the leader and knew I had the speed but just had to build the opportunity while defending the place because I could feel the others on my back wheel. I had good drive (good work on the sprocket) and knew I had the better of the leader, had everything set up and was ready for my attack when he missed a gear onto the straight. You don’t waste that sort of opportunity and I put my head down and passed him with relative ease. From there I put my head down arse up and tried to put as much distance between me and my followers as possible. They were still on my arse but once we got into the lapped traffic I managed to form a bit of a buffer and crossed the line first with my fist pumping the. Fuck I was stoked!!!!!!!
Second point’s race and I got a terrible start and was about forth out of the first turn after a bit of argy bargy. I set to work on those in front of me and after 5 or so laps made my way to second and set to work on first. I had the better of him but his bike was incredibly. I braked late round the sweeper leaving me on the outside but ready to be on the inside through infield, it worked and even though the gap wasn’t big I managed to get up through and made the pass stick. Once again it was time to put my head down and go for it. We were catching lapped traffic that I passed with ease but it seems everyone else was held up and I ended up taking the race with ease.
Well that was an awsome weekends racing and know even though there are about 5 of us that are well and truly booted from the B grade race for consistently being in the 33’s and hitting the 32’s I really couldn’t care or be any happier.
