Anyone out there got a neglected (can be quite bad...) Honda 50/Yamaha 80 mini offroad bike they are willing to sell to a 13yr old young lady, who wants to use it for a school project. The idea is that she strips it, fixes the broken bits, reassembles it, paints it and rides it, documenting the entire process..... Would prefer Japanese, but will look at Chinese. She has to fund the project herself, so low cost is a big factor...... She will have a mentor (has to be outside the family) who will guide her.

Cool to be an MX Dad, eh??

I have a chinese pit bike that your welcome too take away for free.

Muffler is missing but header pipe is still in place.
Front tyre is flat.
Front brake lever has been home-made out of a piece of steel after the original snapped.
Gear shift lever is ok but the knob snapped off and has been replaced with a bolt and piece of hose.
Handle bars are bent but could be straightened.
Would need some tidying up, has a decent amount of mud on it (from a year plus ago!)
Was running but has been sitting for about a year (in the garage) and doesnt want to start anymore, still has spark though and im guessing it just needs a little bit of fiddling with.

Pick up from Hillsborough (just around the corner from you BHB by the looks) or I "MIGHT" be at Ardmore on Sunday.

Gosh, that's a pretty neat school project. Are teachers not impressed by baking soda volcanoes anymore? :p

Awesome replies guys n gals... I'll show Grace this tomorrow after school/work and she can figure where to go with it....

Sophie has chosen to build a 'hide' and photograph wildlife (birds I think....)

They go to an 'alternative' school and with only 10 in the class, the teacher has time to teach......

I must confess to being a little jealous of the great childhood they're having in these 'enlightened' times... oops, showing my age again....

Papier Mache, poster paint, baking soda, and vinegar. A winning combination.

My brother is a teacher at the Hastings school. It has some very strange ideas and some really cool ones. Very Arts focused. I used to give the Steiner kids shit and say that thier uniform was tie die.... LOL

Can't really argue with any of that.... But the results are quite astonishing, my 19yr old went right through from kindergarten to form 2 and is going to rule the world. The twins are in the pioneer class, getting the college up and running......Not cheap though.............If we put them in the state system, I could buy two new 450s every year........

Wow that is expensive! There used to be a few of the Steiner Schools in Hawkes Bay. Mum and Dad nearly sent me to the local one. Must have been the price that put them off!! I must say that the only things that I find weird is the no 90 degree corners and (I'm not sure if this is true anymore or maybe just a myth) that you don't start learning till you get your adult teeth.....

ANyway sorry for spamming up the thread, I look forward to seeing teh bike in its stages. I think she should try to bling it. Chrome it up! LOL

Yeah, saw that by the containers, had to turn my head for a decent look as I sailed over the table top... It felt a little "whippish" but no-one else would have recognised it as such....

Felt sorry for the youngster with the pit bike. He had so many issues with it all evening, but just kept trying... Good attitude... :niceone:

Yet another reason not to buy chinese maybe ;) As for whipping it... no photographers round to snap ya doing it. Always the case aye
