FIM has just approved the first clean emissions motorcycle race (read electric motorbike race) for the Isle of Man later this year with race entries closing soon.

Interesting times. Imagine sitting on the wall in the front straight as the bikes come racing past and all you hear is the rush of wind, the rattle of chains and the riders calling out. I'm trying to imagine what the rattle of 30 chains sounds like without engine noise as they whizz past. All i can imagine is the sewing machine sounds in a factory with several machines going at once.
I didn't know if this belonged here or in general but if you think it should be general let me know and we'll get it moved.
Cheers.

Actually I imagine it to be like this but without the music. By the way the new KTM electric motorcycle that's going into mass production is about 25% more powerful than this one in the video.

I will always remember the IOM circuit for two reasons...
Standing with my best mate Ian Hardisty at the Greg and listening to a TZ250 GP bike all the way from there into Douglas. The noise was simply heaven......
Losing that same best mate there in the 1997 TT Proddie race... something I like to try and forget.

I agree. The sound of a bike can't be beaten. I wonder how they deal to that. I know you can buy kits for cars to get different sounds but that won't be practical when racing.
Watching them go by will be very confusing.
On the plus side you'd be able to set up a race track anywhere because noise won't be an issue.
The other thing we have at the moment is that we kind of understand engine technology. We understand engine sizes, and engine mapping and numbers of cylinders and power curves, torque etc.
In the pits there won't be the smell of oil but burnt electric motors.
Regardless, good on 'em for starting and I hope it grows. It's kind of like a new frontier where the technology will change rapidly while people sort out what's going on.

and here's an article with pictures of one of the race bike designs and it is nothing like you expect. I can't figure out if this will race there or not.

Surely they could make leccie bikes without messy chains?
