View Full Version : Back Protectors

I've been thinking about the safety implications of back protectors in the wake of Chris's "incident".
I'm also aware that not a great number of bucket riders have them, including me.
Chris is fortunate he got nudged where he did, a little more towards the center it might have been prudent to have been wearing a back protector, and even at the impact site he showed me it may have helped.
So yesterday I went an bought one and was surprised they were not overly expensive...
So I'm going to make an offer specifically to Wellington bucketeers (sorry out-of-towners):
A back protector like I bought is $99 + GST, RRP.
We can offer them at $85 to Wellington bucketeers, instore only.
It's not a money making exercise, it's a safety thing first up.
I have one extra instore already, but Chris has put dibs on it. I will be getting more in, should be here by lunchtime I hope.
If you want one, PM me or call the shop 978-7388, or just drop in to see Mark or myself at:
Scooterazzi
Cnr Ghuznee & Victoria Sts
Wellington.
As I said, this offer is only open to Wellington bucket riders, and for a limited time and "while stocks last".

They are meant to be, last time I raced here they were.

I think they are supposed to be, but I suspect it's not been enforced.
I'm not what you'd call a veteran bucket racer so I can't claim to know the history of the issue.

Awesome offer.
They should be mandatory!
Actually, a quick gear check at the start of the day is probably not a bad idea.

Owww Pick me!! I love squeezing my hand inside people's leathers to see what's inside!!!!
Come on you lot, you should be wearing a back protector everytime you get on your bike really, they work well and are good for keeping you kidneys warm... not much worse than a chill in the kidneys! You can feel like one of these fellos too!!

My Teknic is still for sale (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=74058). There's nothing wrong with it - it's just not that suitable for every day wearing while communtering, which is what I bought it for. However (but!) while I haven't worn it since I bought it, I haven't bothered pushing the sale as if/when I ever go on a longish ride I will wear it.
One day in the next 23 years I will get around to buying one to replace the built-in one in the Macna.
Or the jacket will fall to pieces (it's started already) and I'll have to buy a Quasi one to replace it.

Shit cant believe you guys dont check for BP's hell a footpeg in the back a bike running into a fallen rider the potential incidents is endless, slack at the very least:2guns:
anyway, go buy one everyone.
Shameless Plug we have the KNOX armour ones CE level 2 (best you can get) I know they cost a bit more than $89 but there is a difference to justify it.

Oh forgot to say, that bit of foam in the back of your one piece or jacket will give you the protection of a cheese sandwich, they are not back protectors in any way, more to keep the form of the jacket (or one piece) they are not acceptable in Racing.

And how the hell are you supposed to do a good TMNT (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle) impression without one, huh?

Yeah, and wouldn't you just know it that the big pansy used the one out of his jacket AND a piece of camping mattress rubber as well, so he's got triple thickness on it? I think I might just have to pinch mine back when I get my own bucket :devil2:
