Sloan and i have been doing a fair bit of background work for LG and trying our damnest to get more exposure out there, (with limited time and money i might add) you folks have been the best in supporting our cause it really helps even logging onto the LG website and writing blogs and stuff ( big thank you to Shaun Harris) cos he wrote to LG, they were very impressed, they said no one has ever done this... so in short , We may have got the Sponsorship... but you guys made it work for us.. really !!!
Im also pleased to annouce.. we, the team..(Sloan,Jimmy and i) as of today have a factory backing us...
We are to take delivery of Bugden's and Strout's bikes in about 3 to four weeks in time for the winter series !!!
thsi along with an array of a heap of other goodies Suzuki have thrown in.. like spare "hot"engines and spare parts etc.
In short Suzuki liked what we represented and were prepared to back us and even though they are 07/08 bikes they will be highly competitive in the upcoming winter series and nationals....
So a big thank you to Suzuki... and cheers guys for your input !!

This is indeed very exciting news.
For a LOT of reasons. Firstly, Choppa and Ed are going to be on proper competitive bikes. THis is going to throw up a whole raft of challenges which we are all looking froward to meeting head on. Also having both riders on the same machine is a huge step forwards in regards to set up and learning from one and other.
There are going to be some REALLY cool initiatives that will benefit supporters of LG Motorsport immensly as well. Can't wait to announce those.
Well done again Ed and Choppa, this is going to be a FAN fucken Tastic year.

Haha, from the amount of smoke those things were producing earlier in the season I reckon the exhaust is the least of their problems. They didn't need a muffler, they needed a particulate filter. Hang on, what am I riding again? Oh shit.....
Hmmm, I wonder what master tinkerer Ray Clee could do with a CBR if given free rein, they are more than a match for GSXR in stock form.

Serious question though..
Where is the biggest difference between say
1. A 'factory rider'
2. A 'factory/dealer supported rider etc'
3 A 'self suppoted rider own bike with industry deals'
Out of the above what is a privateer for clarification purposes?

A pro is generally one who is paid to do their work. I was a semi pro once lol, for the pittance it was worth. Mostly due to small population here in NZ.
I'd say anyone fairly heavily sponsored is a semi pro. Full professionalism is when you give up your day job.
The LG Team present an air of professionalism and I hope more can do the same to lift the sport as a whole.

A "privateer" is someone that doesnt have backing from the factory, you can be a fully professional racer but provided your not getting factory support then you will qualify. Id say if your riding a bike thats owned by the manufacturer that would make you "factory"

A "factory" rider is someone that is riding for the factory or the manufacturer of the bike brand ie honda suzuki etc. Overseas its obviously alot bigger as theres more money but it still works sorta the same over here. Riders like Andrew, Robbie etc all have all there bikes supplyed and developed by suzuki as does the Honda team etc.
A privateer is someone that buys there bikes, develops them on there own etc etc, regardless if they have someone else paying for there stuff they are still privateers.
Say for instance, Ducati in wsb they have a "factory" team then theres a whole bunch of other Ducati teams, the riders are still professionals but they are privateers

No ''factory'' backed riders, you will only find these at the pointy end of predominantly WSBK and MotoGP
Official Distributor backed riders at conclusion of 09 NZ Champs ( I am happy to fall on my sword if this is slightly inaccurate )
Yamaha NZ Gareth Jones Sam Smith
Honda NZ Hayden Fitzgerald Craig Shirriffs
Suzuki NZ Robbie Bugden Andrew Stroud Ray Clee Dennis Charlett
Kawasaki NZ ??????????????????
I would expect some retrenchment to the above.

Weeeellllllll, you could kind of argue that Suzuki New Zealand is owned by Suzuki Japan. And therefore sorta Factory.
Bottom line is this.
Choppa and Ed now have the nuber one and two placed bikes from the recently concluded NZSBK championship. So they'd better get their skates on and make good use of them, eh boys?

Im actually talking about myself.... Red knows my exact deal with suzuki and we are def still gonna be in the privateer series. Do you think if you go and buy Craigs blade you will be a factory rider??
Sorry mate, this seems to be getting off track,of course no to the above, however in the starter for this thread, its says about the bikes and all the other stuff thrown in ie, engines, spares etc and thanks Suzuki,Someone has obviously paid a small fortune for all this, but if it has come from Suzuki at no charge to you guys it sure will make it hard to separate a true privateer from a "factory" rider.Almost be called a "satellite team" wouldnt it?

NZ
Yeah spot on Robert thanks for clearing up what i was trying to say!

Having had a close association with them for many years I beg to differ. They have poured more money into road racing than any other distributor over the last 3 decades or so and had they not been there road racing in NZ would be little better than club racing. For that alone they deserve respect rather than ill founded comments.

Thanks for the pm but I still disagree from my own firsthand experience. They have been very accomodating with many riders over the years because one man in SNZ has a passion for road racing. It will be a sad day if he loses interest.
Yes I agree also that Sloan and Eddie have got something good going but with the greatest respect to them both going to the next level is something not to be underestimated. I will help them both over the winter because I have a lot of time for their positive attitude and ambition.

What about helping them because the team manager is a good bastard who wants to do his bit for NZ racing too?
Robert, believe me, I know more than you can understand how hard the next level is to conquer. I've tried to do it and underestimated the Shirriffs, the Strouds and the Bugdens. Those chaps certainly showed this wannabe.
HOWEVER! We know what has to go into a team to succeed against these names now. We have the marketing, the experience, the technical support and above all, the skill to take it to these names this year.
Without wanting to bum lick, you're the person I respect most in the padock of any meeting. Because of your knowledge and experience but also your connections.
You might want to inform some of those contacts mate, they're going to be challenged this upcoming season. And you know what, we're going to have the support of the public.
It's all falling into place mate. Stay tuned.
Edit: Forgot to reiterate your earlier comment. SNZ is without a doubt the driving force behind NZ SBK racing. Without them, there would be nothing other than some ZXR400s and a couple of RS125s battling out (no disrespect) for a championship. Don't believe me? Cast your mind back for the previous ten years. If a Suzuki hasn't won, who's the champion been striving to beat?

What Im really trying to say Jimmy is stay humble! Sloan has a great attitude and he will progress further, beyond doubt. But please dont place too much pressure upon him by amping everything up so much, so much like the Yanks do.
