I've been to a couple and I think you'll find WAY more than 200 hot rods, customs and classics there. Entrant numbers have been capped at 800 but with tag-alongs there's always shitloads more. It's a blast.

We're going to be there from Friday - well, staying at Pauanui, but we will visit the Beach Hop. We were going to take the Corvette up but couldn't justify the expense after attending Americarna, but then I won a luxury weekend away and they decided to send us to Puka Park Resort - and they just happened to book us for that weekend!

We'll be in a Porsche (part of the prize) but it means we can get to see what the Beach Hop is all about and we won't have to pay for a thing! I can't wait - we had a ball at Americarna so we're really looking forward to next weekend.

Thanks! The other half is pretty stoked - he doesn't drink so if I'd won a case of champagne he would have missed out but this way he gets to share the accommodation, massage treatments (bliss!), meals and the use of the Porsche. Originally the trip was meant to be to Wellington (not such a great thrill when you only live 110kms up the road) but Porsche said they didn't have any vehicles available in Wellington so the offer was made to either drive one down for us to use or for us to fly up there and stay at Pauanui instead. I've never been to the Coromandel, despite living in Whakatane for about 15 years, so I'm really looking forward to that, and the fact the Beach Hop is on the same weekend really is the icing on the cake.

Didn't make it to Waihi, but did catch the Beach Hop on Friday afternoon/evening and Saturday evening. Great cars, great atmosphere.

Spent most of Saturday cruising along the beaches - there are some absolutely gorgeous places there, you lucky buggers who live nearby! We pulled over several times in the Porsche to let bikes pass (mostly Harleys) and nearly all of them waved. Probably nearly died of shock that a 4WD pulled over to let them pass!

Had an amazing time there last weekend and will definitely be back. The weather was perfect and the bonus of having it all paid for by someone else made the weekend the best ever!

Cave Weta makes the front page!

Beach hop was a hoot with lots of competitions and novelty events.

I came second in the business house Drag Race. photo of us mid race on the front page of the herald link here!

Can't find photo you're talking about - takes me to a news site but I couldn't find any drag racing mentions.

What colour was the lambo? Bit easier to spot if I know that for a start! Took heaps of photos, but mostly of the old Chevys and Fords, so if the car was a newish one, I probably didn't get a shot of it.

Still no luck - same page gets displayed and then it asks me for money... you must be signed in or something!

There were a few riders from Auckland staying at the resort - guy on a Ducati with a blonde (American?) partner, and a guy on a Harley (who also owned two old BMW R90s I think) with an Asian partner. There was also a couple on a Suzuki but only saw them as we were leaving.

I think I saw that Lambo in Coromandel township yesterday... The girls at the cafe we had stopped at were mightily disappointed with his sedate departure!:spanking: The one we saw was an orange one.

We were at Whangamata briefly on Friday evening and were glad to be heading further up the coast! What with all the traffic and the smell of burning rubber and exhaust... Who said there was a recession?

Awesome cars - just checked but didn't get any photos of the Lambo, sorry.

It was easy to spot the difference between Americarna and the Beach Hop - at Americarna they held up signs saying "rev it please" or "please toot" whereas at the Beach Hop the signs read "rev it or show tits"!

When we picked up the Porsche in Auckland there was a Maserati Quattroporte for sale at the dealership. Very nice if anyone has a spare $189,000 and doesn't mind a second-hand car...:niceone:
