OK about 2 weeks ago out riding in tokoroa not far from the hospital thank god, i had another heart attack ,luckily doc at tok a&e new what to do, and administered a clot busting drug before i was rushed to waikato ccu intensive care ....ok now thats all over im on the mend..now have asked my docs about wether the bike caused it but they say probably not, but i had expisodes of angina before but only when i ride my bike and onlt when racing on a mx type track ,My son tim 24 rides my bike and after about 10 minutes of hard riding hes stuffed .. yeah i know, im an old fart and shouldnt be riding a heavy but fast yz 426 .. but i love the power ..so heres the question .. and before ya say give up riding ..ummmm ..NO..:( so what bike do ya suggest for about $3500 im 5.10 and 112kg and losing fast..something fast ,light easy start.

Fark me, sorry tah hear but glad tah hear you're on the mend. Thought you wuz being quiet now i'ze know why. Big bike andrenaline too much for yah yer old fart!
I'm having fun on the KX125, and at only 87kg (same weight as me) it's a fun bike to throw around. But you have to ride it hard and fast to get the power and thrills..and I haven't quite got the hang of that yet. I miss the torqueyness of the 4 stroke and am thinking of putting a weight on the flywheel to see if it helps for trail riding. But you're probably thinking a light weight 250 to cope with your incredible size ay.

You don't need a flywheel weight, just learn how to ride it........
Sorry to here about your mis-fortunes....
As for a bike I also have a KX125 which is great to throw around, nice and light. The down side, like most MX bikes is you have to ride them aggresively to get the best results. This means that you tire quickly, untill you get used to it. Depending on your riding type maybe a newer 250 (4 stroke mx type) or even something like a KDX which is 2 stroke, light and agile, just not the best shocks...
Most will depend on the type of riding you do.

The 2 stroke's are lighter than the 4's but the 4's have more low end torque. Saying that the newer 250 f's are a lot lighter than the older traditinoal 4 strokes

Im confused
are you saying that (you think) the heavy bike caused the hard attack cause you have to work so hard on it?
xen
19th March 2009, 14:25
Man that sux about the heart attack but good to hear you're doing ok.
Would say go with a 2t 250 mxer if you want power and the lighter weight for that price. kdx 101kg, 02 kx250 97kg

SUZUKI RM250 or KWACKA KX250 04 models onwards have big meaty torque spreads and are both around 95 kg.
Someone of OUR size has to work far to hard on a 125 2 stroke and the power and maintenance of a 250F just doesnt do it for me.

Thanks motonut and xen thats the sort of stuff im after that ktm200 might be the go ,yep i agree ive probably ruled out the 125 as i think i'd be working hard to keep it going with the extra weight

get a 250 2t, max power, minimum weight.
you will find a 250F or a 125 too gutless. im lighter than you, (not by much lol) and i find riding 250f's hard work due tothe fact that i have to ring the shit out of it to even make it move

Thanks BOOOOM thats what i need to know having not riden a 250f before..if it wasnt for the fact that im limited by $$$ id probably buy a newer 450 cause they are pretty light, but at the mo it looks like maybe a 200 or 250 ..2 stroke, thats fine my sons one has a fww and that makes it easier to ride down low
kezzafish
19th March 2009, 15:22
i'd say the newer 450 MXer wouldn't be the go for you. They are lighter on the scales but the power is massive and the torque rips your arms off. they are the most tiring bike you could get in my opinion. a 450 enduro bike is probably as heavy as the bike you have now but may be a bit better on the arm ripping tip.
250 2t is the go... I've heard you rave about your boys one so you know you're gonna love it. An enduroy type one will be better still. less arm rippy dippy. 300EXC<ooooh how did that get in there?

Hi mate - good to see you wanna get back on the bike - thats the spirit. My advice to you is - try a whole heap of different bikes first before you buy anything. If you think about it -there are heaps of different bikes here on KB,I suppose most of them would be happy to let you have a feel of theirs(BIKE!). I suppose it would mean meeting up at a ride or whatever,pre-arranged. I would also go and see how many bike shops would be willing to give you a demo bike to try out. Shop around a bit and come up with your own conclusion.

2 smokers all the way I say.........
You could also look at steering dampners, they are suppose to be really good and make the riding a little easier (don't have to through the bike round as much).

Fair call mate
I will be surprised if a lighter bike will give you "less strain".
See if someone wants to borrow you there 250 for a couple of runs before you make a decision.
B0000M
19th March 2009, 16:42
a lighter bike will tire you out a lot less than a heavy bike, and nothing is more tiring that a 450, there is no easy part of the rev range. which is where the 250 2t wins, you can go gently down low in the revs but still have more power than you know what to do with when you open it up
also, they have less enertia weight, which makes them feel lighter too
harder to stall
easier to start when you do stall
cool retro effect
less annoying to neighbours of tracks

My 07 kx250f weighs 92kg's dry, and feels lighter to ride by a country mile than an un-co KDX. Was thinking of a 125cc as I liked the ones I rode, but after having a few goes on a moden alloy frame 250f I was sold. I'm not telling you to get one, but you should have a go before you make up your mind. You might find the enduro ones a bit tame though.

I'm not going to recommend a bike for you, I find choosing a bike very personal... BUT, while I never actually had a heart attack, I did get pretty close and I'm not giving up riding either, don't care what anyone says, lying in HDU for a few days makes everything thing in life much clearer...
Last night I rode Grace's KX125 at Ardmore instead of the KDX. It's a rocket ship and way too easy to go faster than I should... :whocares:

most certainly not by ant means that is how i see them. Parts for the ktm are more likely to cost more and there is the point that the kdx isnt made any more. For the money your spending dont think you would get much in the way of a 4s although rupe got a 07 kz250f for round 4500 and dont be fooled they go all right couple a mates have 250 4s and you can all ways add a few aftermarket hot ups

Funny that i weigh 99 kg's and find my 250f has plenty of get up and go....and i even have a mate with a KTM 250SX who loves getting on my bike and raves about how light it is compared to his(he has an 08)....though i will admit his is a friken rocketship and i struggle to keep the front wheel on the ground...........but hey if we all liked the same bike/power she'd be a funny old world

What ever bike you get you know that you will push it to the limit...don't ya?
So therefore the weight thing is not really the issue. The problem is fighting the damn thing all day. You don't need to struggle all day when you can spend hours at a very respectable pace and not have to stop so often to recharge, well we make excuses don't we, like "Just have to clean the googles"
How about a WR250... 4T
So options are, taking into acct budget, weight, girth and penis size..etc
KDX200...stills goes well, but will need to be modified for the penis size.
KTM200... cost hmmm. Is ya penis worth it?
WR250F...will carry said penis well
KLX300.. will carry 4 penises
CR250 ...penises ride these things:yes:

and exhaust..but gonna ride a 250f first just to see...by the way nice ktm300:yes:

I have 03 and and 08 200exc if your ever at the same place as me an my son!
You can do a loop on either if you want to. Both set up for 100kg ish!
The 03 was late 3k so would fit the bill for you as you can rap them like a 125 or torque them like the 300.

Rotten luck laser racer, but imagine what state the blood pump would have been in if you had been a couch spud. Good on you for not giving up - bitch slap the grim reaper and tell him to come back when you're not so busy.
From what I've read the 426 was known for it's fierce power delivery. I've ridden the earlier 400 and that thing felt like it had no flywheel at all. A bike that's more suited to trail work will help a lot but my feeling is the best way to give the old strawberry an easier work load is with less weight (sorry for the double entendre). I find the situation that gets me close to blowing a gasket is when I've had to jump off and push up a greasy rooty climb. Due to my poor fitness, if I then drop it in an awkward position I'm past the redline. Heart pounding away like a jackhammer and no energy left. Thankfully the EXC200 is almost a pleasure to flick around by hand and get going again. It keeps surprising me with how easy to handle it is. I used to think the KLX300 was light enough but there's just no comparision with the 2 tanger.
KTMboy cracked me up there. I've found KTM ownership did increase pants bulge (helps to impress the laydez), but it's really only an illusion caused by increased ball size due to excessive swelling from the hard thin seat.

Cheers for that camchain:2thumbsup, yeah really interested to ride one and see ,pity cause i really love my 426 its one awesome bike and i use to be able to handle it ok,but its more a case of it handling me now:lol: ,so im gonna try both a 200exc and a kx or yz 250f, if i hate them all i will go with a 250 2smoke yz..so i have a few options..i looked long and hard for a good 426 and i just hope my next bike is as reliable ,what i really want is some thing like a 450 that weighs as much as a 125 with electric leg that would be awesome:2thumbsup ..but i dont think they make them and if they did it would be worth way more than $3500:weep:
