My suggestions would be WestPac Rescue Helicopter & or St Johns Ambulance Service.

+1 on those two agency's.
(Heard today of a female acquaintance that died last w/end on a east cape ride near Tolaga Bay. St Johns and helpers did what they could, but alas she past away. R.I.P Rose):(

Alrighty then, the first trip with the little shit was a disaster:

Anyways, we decided that our charity is St Johns Ambulance.
We need volunteers (who will pay a levy for the privilege), to give Pooey a lap of Un Zed. I'm looking for someone to get him from the Waikato/King Country to Wellytown (the long way) in the next coupla weeks.

Will take for a tour on the weekend.

I think the Adv rider crowd want a travel map loaded up on their site.
I've got no idea how to do that, so hope someone like you, Oscar, BD can knock something up;)

30th April 2009, 19:41
Would something like this work?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v727/Berwyn/NZPooeyMap.jpg
People could import it into paint or a similar programme, add their track and then upload it to their photosharing site. If each rider uses a different colour we could add a key to the side.

30th April 2009, 20:00
how do you get those maps with the little pointers, like google maps,or similar, like the ADV guys use on their Tag O Rama games?
Kokopelli
30th April 2009, 21:42
I guess we could just use Google maps, draw in the route and post the link. Like the map that showed the recent King Country route. Whatever is easier.
I won't be able to go far anyway as I've just had a couple of weeks off. But I agree that we should have one.
The bird is wide awake now, but I am off to bed.

Oscar
28th May 2009, 17:52
isn't he a swan/duck?
He's an Ostrich.
The reason is summat to do with the AdvRider.com tradition of "PUI" (posting under the influence), which is invariably caused by someone stating that "..it's time to light the bird." Now whereas I have no idea where this saying comes from, it's meaning is to open the bar, and it was frequently accompanied by a pic of an Ostrich...

Cute bird - stopped outside of Kaikoura for a photo op - Snow Clad Mt Tapeneku (spelling) - late lunch at Hislops - a hit with the young Irish Lass (serving us)and he salivated as we (son and I) partook of Hislops fine fare.
Headed on stopping at Cheviot to give the Beemer a drink.
Ran into fog at Amberly around dusk - damp trip to XF650's here at Ashburton - Pooey warmly welcomed by XF650's household in fact the family dog almost too friendly (hungry) - Pooey retreated to his Pelican bed for the night - thanks XF650 for having Pooey stay in your home - onwards to Kurow today with XF650 and Katoom riders - ciao Aslan

And yes, we raised over $1,300 for St John at the Brass Monkey Rally alone.

ok - having had great hospitality here in the South Island of Aotearoa (Waipounamu) - Pooey is hitting the road for Picton - leaving Ashvegas soon.
I understand the illustrious 4Sklins of CCA fame is expecting to receive Pooey later this week - and has the little bird scheduled to have her hearing tested.
NB - there was a group of Wellington based ADV riders who used to meet for lunch on Thursdays or Fridays weekly. This group has been in recess -however, I think the chance to meet Pooey and donate dollars to St John's warrants a meeting of the Lambton Bikers at Rhazoo this Thursday at noon. So be at Rhazoo Thursday noon or be square - all welcome - irrespective of whether you're a tar baby or a gravel surfer. :soon:

A brief trip summary. Aslan will eventually post a full story on the AdvRider link. In the meantime here's a few teasers of Pooey's Brass Monkey Rally trip south:
6 bikes left Ashvagas - 2 x 990's, 1 x 690, 1 x 640, 1 x GS1150 & 1 x XF650. Even though mine was the only jap, at least it had the most stickers.
We zig zagged down via Rangitata to Geraldine, Pioneer Trail to Upper Waitohi, had a crack at the Brothers Track (only 3 bikes got through), then McKenzie pass via Burkes Pass.
1) Pooey staring down the Chequred Flag cat - Pooey won.
2) line-up under the Richard Pearce memorial - yes it did fly but then crashed into a gorse fence. Hence it's called the "hedge cutter"
3) Fairlie monument to McKenzie the sheep rustler. Pooey is confused - is that a dog or a pig?
4) Pooey straddling another momument, McKenzie Pass

2nd June 2009, 17:56
Did Haka Pass to Kurow where we stayed in the pub Friday night. From there our group split up a bit with the 990's going off to ride / race with MickyBoy & the other KTM's went to Oamaru.
1) Fog in the Haka Valley, the stuff that ices up the inside of your visor
2) Aslan breaking ice in Myers Pass
3) Clarksfield Track overlooking Waitaki Valley. Can you see Pooey waving? - he wasn't so cheerful after riding through all the land mines further up that hill.
4) Bikes keeping warm in the Pub Lounge Bar - KTM's are tough, they stayed outside

Saturday we hit Danseys Pass where I had a drive of a very special Model A truck (reason later). At Ranfurley I left Aslan at his hotel with what looked like his rear wheel on fire. With the associated delays we flagged Dunstan Trail & I headed to the Rally.
1) first I met with our fund raising assistants - Pooey and I couldn't believe our luck.
2) Pooey (the lazy shit) just watched while I pitched my tent next to the Dam. He was probably showing off to his cousins in the background too.
3) Pooey in heaven
4) Plod telling Pooey to lay off the booze

I don't have many pics from the nights activities, either my camera didn't like the cold or I wasn't capable of operating it. But there should be some goodies taken by the St Johns girls - it was another fantastic Brass Monkey Rally. I thought I was in bed by 12:30 but have since been told it was closer to 2am. Most importantly though, Ven and I made sure that Pooey, the donations and the girls were all safe and secure. I also have to say that the St Johns girls insisted they had a great time and want to come back to the Brass next year. We were a great team and are real proud of our $1,350 success.
1) Kevin & Christine Pooke - our first Brass Monkey Rally donators (or should that be donatees?)
2) Pooey riding side car
3) Pooey in the money
4) Presenting the donations to the Maniototo St John on Sunday morning (shit I look fat in my wets).

1) Pooey helping to convert Aslans GS to a long wheel base version
2) Pooey helping a couple to find a geo-cache (it cost them a donation to St Johns)
3) checking out Mt Aspiring from the Outlet, where we have our summer camping holidays. Great spot.
4) Pooey hitching a ride on a Mig fighter. You can see the frost we were riding in that morning.

4) Pooey up a Bofor gun

From Wanaka we headed to Tarras via a work call at Long Gulley Station. Ven rejoined us, then we met Oldrider enroute to Omararma. After a few indecencies with the ram statue & a couple of Asian tourists (someone took pics), we headed down to Otamatata to briefly visit with both the OldRider's.
John initially thought I was bringing some shelia to meet him but he quickly warmed to Pooey all the same.
We then rode the BlackForest track from Benmore Dam over to Haldon Station, the best ride of the trip. Then the Haldon Road to Dog Kennel corner is some of the fastest gravel you can ride - it was here that Pooey witnessed the XF going faster than a tapped out 640. Then home via Pleasant Point & a final stop at The Chequred Flag, Rangitata.
1) Pip and John Oldrider - stalwarts of KB and always generous with their hospitality. It is a pleasure to know them.
2) Aslan climbing two up with heaps of luggage - he said his front wheel was a bit "light" at times.
3) Pooey at the top enjoying the view, with an Austrian, a Jap & a German. Clear skies & a dry track - just perfect
4) The Innes family of Black Forest Station, who generously gave back our track fees as a donation to Pooey / St Johns.

Struan aka XF650 assisted by OMC and two delightful St John's ladies and Ven collected $1,300 at the Rally on Sat night. This was presented to the Ranfurly St John on Sunday AM
Together we raised another $140 plus on the road between Picton and the South (return) - this was donated to the Canterbury branch of St John
