Try Scott @ ABC in Takapuna, Automotive Brake and Clutch, they specialise in it.
Usually half price compared to Repco. Should get it for $25 per set. Which is both e.g. two front wheels (4 pads)

Being a Honda, a Civic no less, surely it's easy to come to a complete stop simply by letting go of the accelerator? Residual gheyness/slowfuckery soaked into the chassis from when it came out of the factory in '83...?

Can't you just "Fred Flintsone" it and put your heels on the ground to stop??
Must say, I'm impressed that a Civic that old is still around, I thought they had all disappeared in a flurry of rust flakes when someone slammed the door.

If you want really cheap go to Pick-A-Part and pull a set of pads out of a wreck. Probably no more than a dollar each. Should be able to find some with a bit of life left in them
