My old man John Marsh passed away in late '85 whilst racing at Manfield (I was 8 months old) and I don't know anybody who knew him other than my immediate family. I was just re-reading the articles published in the April/May 08 issues of Bike Rider Magazine on the F1 bike he built (these have been my best source of information about my dad's racing career) and It seems to me he was pretty well known in racing circles around the North Island at least. So if you knew or even knew of my dad, fell free to share with me. And if you don't, at least you now know he managed to spawn some 2 evil offspring before he departed. haha cheers :2thumbsup

Hi I just want to say that it's very harsh for you not to have known your father so I hope you get lots of PM's and anecdotes about him. Good luck.

I met your dad on a few occasions & he built me a muffler for my TM400 when I made it roadworthy.

I don't know sorry man. Like I say I have next to no idea of what his racing career entailed. And mum's pretty useless lol. All she knows is that he was never home in the summer and spent most of his time in the shed during winter.

Try to track down David Plowright - his old man was a sales man at Calendar Suzuki about that time and Dave was pretty quick on the bike - I'd expect them walk in similar cirlces.
Good luck man

Dave Plowright was one of my head students at my Karate club & have known each other for 20+ ys . Raced against Johns race bike at the local
Drag here & beat it with my GSXR1100R , Paul Greenbanks had it then. Meet John afew times at Calender Motorcyles, my mentor showed him how to make Expansion cambers for 2 strokes as he worked out the formula for making them & then John went onto making his own pipes for all different types of bikes out at Waitara .

Your Dad was certainly a busy man. His name appears in all of the race programmes I have dating from around that time.
He partnered Terry Turner in a couple of the Castrol 6 Hour races.

I understand Dallas Rankin & Alan DeLatour were both injured in separate crashes in John's last race - fine day but cold track surface. A character remembered & still missed.

I know this is an old post but you never know.......
That would make you Daniel then. I knew John for quite a few years and was at Mansfield on that unfortunate day, in fact I was at the hospital with him.
I was also around when he built that bike and have had the privilege to work on it and also other race bikes of Johns. I also remember running the pits for a few years for the Castrol 6 hour and was also there when TT (Terry Turner) and John rode the 6 hour. His best result was 3rd one year on a GSX 750 ERT. What great memories I have of that time. If you want to know more about you dad let me know, I would be interested to see you and Mike sometime.
Cheers
