Hey guys,

Check out the following from Tim Gibbes....let's send our support and get in behind Brent and the team who are pushing to get the green light on this track!

Cheers - Nicko #80

Motorcyclesport supporters - Let's help support Taupo!

You probably know that the Taupo Motor Race Circuit is proposing to upgrade & enlarge the circuit into a much more attractive facility, that will include the necessary infrastructure such as pit garages and a business park but more importantly increase the length to 3.4km.

The improvements will allow for events from the club standard to full on Internationals, both motorcycles and cars.

As you are aware the great "Kiwi Clobbering Machine" comes to the surface when a venture this size is being considered. There has been a tremendous amount of work done on this project and it appears that there is just the last hurdle to overcome, the Resource Consent.

I would like you to support Taupo by writing in favour of the project and not allow the knockers to have their say. I would like to suggest to those who are wanting this to happen to write a letter or email to the address below and show our support.

The Taupo District Council has shown a great deal of vision for our sport and other motor related industries by providing a lot of resources and time into a much better facility for all. The Consent process has begun and time is of the essence to get the support that maybe needed so if you can help it would be much appreciated.

Please send your approval & encouragement as soon as possible to:

Thankyou in anticipation for your help, we will all benefit.

Yours in motorcyclesport,
Tim Gibbes.

Taupo has given the thumbs up to an international-standard motor racing circuit and business park at Centennial Park.

A resource consent application lodged with Taupo District Council for the multi-million dollar upgrade received 10 written submissions and 270 emails supporting the project.

An objection relating to traffic issues was withdrawn this week following discussions between the objector and council planning staff.

Submissions closed last Tuesday.

Environmental services planning manager Chris Kimpton said the application would still need to go to an independent commissioner for final "sign off".

He could not say exactly when construction work would begin, but estimated it would be early next year.

Spokesperson for the company Brent Pirie said once the resource consent application was approved, a lease agreement for the proposed new international track and business park could be negotiated with the council on behalf of a consortium of investors.

The Taupo Car Club's existing 1.4km track will be extended 3.4km, designed by former Formula One racing driver Chris Amon.

A motor industry-related business park will be sited on 11ha of council owned land adjacent to the track.

Man, that is awesome.

Wonder when it will be ready??

Looks like we will have a second track to host the v8's now, seen as though they have been talking about it over the last few weeks.
